Easy to design and configure. Fast uploads. Great, high quality views, slide show. Easy to add additional images to a created album and easy to set privacy options.
I do not use a members list. I simply construct an email and copy & paste the url of an album to share with others. I see no downside to Shutterfly. I do not use it for commercial purposes. I use it for sharing images with others.

Here is one of my sites and link to a specific album; https://imagesbymarkweiss.shutterfly.com/pictures/1360

WJShaheen, your site is quite nice. Apparently Flickr is not the only host that has a hierarchical setup. (I'm not planning to change over, though.) This is my high-level Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections.

Was looking through your USAF pictures & I noticed the sets from Cartwright and Goose Bay. I spent some time at both places (Plus Saglek and several places further north on Baffin Is. (I was part of the team that did the site surveys for the North Warning radars).

I've never tried setting up the nested collections like that, but now I think I want to try it!

I use Smugmug. Set it up years ago for high school reunions. Don't have much else on it. Classmates order pictures. Prices are really low, 8x10 is $2.00 so I don't sell other stuff there. Just a few on the site for fun. It's not the pro site and I get no commission. If interested eleanorcarlisle.smugmug.com.

There is just one little quirk in using Collections that I find distressing: a Collection cannot itself contain both Collections and Albums--the contents of a Collection must either be all Albums or all other Collections--one cannot mix them. Every so often I find a situation where I have several Collections I need to group together, but there is a single Album that also needs to be included in the group Collection. I have been forced to find a way to arbitrarily split the Album into 2 so it can be made part of a Collection, or to just create a Collection that contains only that Album--an absurdity. Fortunately, this situation does not occur very often. I have found the hierarchical structure possible in Flickr to be very helpful.

I was the Radar Maintenance Officer at the 922nd AC&W Sqdn at Cartwright AS, Labrador from March 1964 through March 1965, and I did travel TDY to Goose AB a couple of times during that year. I had graduated from a Kodak Baby Brownie Special (127 film) camera to a Petrie 7S rangefinder (bought at the Goose AB BX) and most of my Labrador photos were done with the Petrie. By the time of the 2005 week-long reunion at Cartwright I had graduated to a Nikon D50 DSLR. (I'm using a D7100 right now, with a 18-200mm VR2 zoom lens.)

Wow! I like this site. Almost full screen. That's unusual from what I've seen.

I'm not looking to sell my work but I'd like to easily share my photos with friends and family. I'd like to allow access for viewing only as well as choosing images I'd allow others to download. It seems like a lot of Hoggers use Smugmug but for an enthusiast is that the best site? What other sites do people use? Are there any free sites or is it worth it to pay for a Smugmug subscription?

I am happy using Google Photos.

Thanks Fotoartist. Yes, I find them good to deal with.
For US based photographers I think they also offer a print and sell service but haven’t investigated how it works.
They keep updating the service but I tend to just stick with the basics.

I believe the free version give you one terabyte of storage, more than adequate for most of us.

While the free version Flickr gives you 1 terabyte of free storage, I believe the free version limits the number of photos you can upload at one time, while the paid (Pro) version gives you unlimited uploads. I pay about $50 for two years of Pro service.

I did look. I was not attempting to "show" my images - just the Shutterfly site. He indicated he was simply looking for a way to share images with family, friends ... Shutterfly is perfect for that.

I thought the ability to create Collections was limited to paid subscribers, but I don't see that restriction as being still in effect. One advantage of being paid is that there are no ads displayed to people accessing one's photos.
