Hey, put your camera on "P" mode and check the settings. That is the camera algorithm best exposure settings. Or, download a light meter app for your smartphone and try that.

Let's see what happens when and if it gets out of the Kickstarter stage. My cameras already have a certain amount of AI to decide on the best settings.

When I was a kid ... the film would come in a box along with a slip of paper. The paper gave settings to get a correctly exposed image under general conditions. "Bright Sun" , Bright day Overcast , etc. I memorized the couple of situations and went out into the world to take photographs. As I got older and had some more money, I bought a Super Pilot light meter to give me the information I needed to take photographs. After a short while I completely forgot the instructions on the old sheet of paper and relied entirely on the light meter. It seems to me that as we rely more and more on technology, we are forgetting how to actually produce an image without it. Here is a short story to demonstrate what I am talking about. The German battleships in WW-2 had anti aircraft guns that were controlled mechanically. The mechanism was designed to swing the guns around at a speed fast enough to follow the British fighter planes. When the Bismark was trying to hide from the British navy, it was spotted by an old double wing float plane. The Germans tried to shoot the plane down but could not train their guns on the slow moving plane - the mechanism controlling the gun's swivel could not go that slow! The plane sent messages about the Bismark's location ... and the rest is history. There will come a time we will be able to mount our "Really Smart" cameras on a little dolly and send them out to photograph the kid's soccer game. The camera will know where to go because it will have its GPS and the little wheels and motor will get it there and home again. It will be a good thing because by that time we will have completely forgotten which button needs to be pushed to actually take the photo! ;-)

I've already advanced way beyond this technology by simply searching google images and downloading 'realistic' pictures that I like. That way, I save the money I would have spent on a camera and the time it would have taken to learn how to use it. Plus, I can stay home eating Cheetos and watching Wheel of Fortune rather than have to move around or, worse yet, go outside to take photographs.

And more will be added at a later date. Some cameras will never be supported that lack the means to be controlled externally.

The real problem will be the need to connect this device to the camera by cable. The SX60HS camera can be connected externally to a smart phone (https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/explore/solutions-services/mobile-apps/camera-connect) but I don't see how this device would connect to the camera with it's current cable.

Sort of reminds me of when Texas Instruments came out with the first calculator, cost $300.00, 6 months later $150.00 then $100.00, finally $10.00. I saw the video and was impressed by the Arsenal. But a $500.00 pledge to be first in line, I think not especially when price for unit was not given. It will be interesting how this pans out, I am sure if successful camera companies will be adding these features to their camera's, I have been waiting for a much better HDR system in camera's and focus stacking, maybe this will be the push that is needed. And, don't be surprised if it becomes a $1 app soon for your phone. Don't you just love technology.

To me it looks like a device to add an "Auto Mode" to Pro cameras. The new NIKON D850 has 'Focus Stacking' and I suspect that future cameras will include this.

Don't denigrate p/p so quickly. The simple acts of cropping, straightening or brightening do not markedly affect the true nature of a photograph, but are, indeed, post processing, yet I don't believe that they affect "reality." Did you shoot in film days and have your photos developed? Ever see the numbers on the back of a photo? Those were the post processing changes done prior to printing.

Agree, and crop is the simplest of all PP tools. One quote from the link stood out:

I used to think the same way when AUTO FOCUS came in, and Nikon's auto fill flash. But I found with this technology a way to improve as a photographer. I learned to adapt and improve using technology.

Given his amount of print manipulation in the dark room he would probably embrace it.
