I still have mine from the 80's. Recently I pulled it out and stuck in a roll of Kodak T-Max 100 B&W film and started shooting. While the images don't compare with my D810 and modern lenses, it did made me slow down and think more about composition and exposure instead of just shooting lots of bracketed images and then sorting through the files on the computer.
Most photos today posted are rarely out of the camera they have to be post processed. I am old school The best photographers cant compete with soft ware. So actually I like great photo's right out of the camera. It is truly the work of the photographer and camera. Just my opinion.
I had an AE-1 also,a great camera.I stopped using it and finally traded it in for a Nikon D3100.Also a great camera.
Sensorloupe is correct. The battery is a 6volt. My battery, an enercell, reads PX28A. You can get them from a Wal-mart, RadioShack or a camera store. Enjoy the camera!
Looks hungry might want to feed it a roll of TX✌️
About a year ago, just after I parted with my Pentax ME (and lens, winder, etc.) I decided to try 35mm again ... found two AE-1Ps in the area and bought both of them ... gave one to my son (who never used it) and tried a roll of film through this one ... don't know what happened to the prints (*.jpgs) but, about a week ago I loaded another roll of film and am part way through it ... really makes you think about what you are doing ... far to easy for me to get into the "spray & pray" mode ... hope this slows me down ...

I had an A1, I loved it, unfortunately it was stolen. I sure wish I still had it.
Same with my FE-2 and F before that. Would still have them and use them if both hadn't been stolen.
I had an AE-1, I also had a 1947 Oldsmobile.

Me too,,,, I bought mine in Prince George B.C. Canada. It sits in its bag with 3 nice lenses, and I can't bear to part with it. Maybe I'll shoot some film this summer.

I believe I have the same one! and I too can not part w/ it. It was my second film camera....Minolta 202 being the first.....still have both....they made them AND lenses like tanks back then. Maybe some day someone will figure out a way to convert.....to digital~
The AE-1 is a fine camera; I run several rolls of film through mine every year. However, I do slightly prefer the ergonomics of the Nikon FE, which is has been my primary go-to film camera for the last several years.
