I am getting terrific results with a SONY DSC-HX 80 camera and the price won't break your bank.

I picked up a Canon G7X mkII. Took it on a cruise to the med and was blown away with the picture quality. Much Much better than I expected. Other features were great also.

There were many times I used it in place of my Canon 70D.

You are going to have to trade image quality with super zoom. Larger sensors and better image quality are not consistent with super zoom.

You also have to decide what size you want. Do you want a "bridge" camera, that looks like a DSLR with a grip, pop up flash, etc? Do you want a pocketable camera?

My criteria for a P&S is that it shoot RAW, have good WiFi connection and control, have a viewfinder, and fit in my pocket. I want it to be convenient enough that I can always have it with me, and that the images fit my workflow (unlike iPhone photos). Integration with my iPhone will let me easily copy, process, and uplink photos from the camera, as well as control it with my iPhone so I can put it on a pole for high perspective views. And a viewfinder is critical; I like to see what I'm doing in sunlight.

I settled on a Panasonic LF1, which meets all these criteria and has a step zoom control that makes it easy to get quick, repeatable focal lengths. The viewfinder is weak, but it is functional. I had hoped that Panasonic would upgrade the camera, but they were swayed by the super zoom wars.

But, these are the sort of criteria you need to settle on before you can select the camera that you want and will use.

I'll second the LF1. That is my 'always with me' camera. F2.0 Leica lens is tack sharp. Very sturdy. I use it as a visual notebook for my construction site reports also. Hardly even know its in your pocket. Great wide angle to 200mm zoom is very useful range.

If you want to capture birds and squirrels and wildlife at a distance of 50 ft. or so you want at least an 800mm equivalent focal length. For wide angle your equivalent minimum focal length would be 24mm. Check the specs and the user reviews on Amazon (especially the negative ones), and the pro reviews on DPReview for any camera you want to buy. DPReview often has sample photos on their reviews. Sample photos will help make up your mind. They can be viewed at full resolution which will give you an idea of what crops will look like. Good luck and happy shopping. The last new camera I bought was the Lumix LX5 about 5 years ago. Every camera and lens I have bought since then has been used on ebay from top rated sellers.

I have the Sony RX100 III and RX10 III and really like them.
The last time I checked Amazon and B&H, they are selling
RX10 III for less than $1600.

Have any that are promoting the RX10III read post number 9 where the OP said, "I already have a Canon camera with a long lens but am looking for a smaller "point & shoot" camera when I don't want to carry a large camera -closer to a pocket size" There is no question the RX10III is a fantastic camera, but it is quite big due largely to the lens. It fails the OP's wish list due to size.

I listed the features of the Panasonic ZS100 and put up a picture so the OP could see the size. It meets the OP's list, including size.

Now you have a response from a "spectrum" audience -- make your decision. Don't let "it" overwhelm you! Ha, HA!

Consider a Nikon 1...either the J5, or V3. Put an FT-1 Lens Adaptor on it, and most Nikon DSLR lenses (FX, and DX, F Mounts) will fit on it. That gives you: many focus points, a small / lightweight package, great lens selection, great features, and high shooting speeds....for slow motion videos of sports, children, animals, objects, etc.

And, OH BTW, most of us were reading the ORIGINAL OP -

"Looking for a point & shoot camera that has the best features such as best image quality, super zoom, image stabilization, view finder, etc. Does anyone have information they can share with a preference" .........
