Wide angle DX?

Guys, the OP asked about a WA lens for a DX camera not a FX. A 28mm or 35mm lens on a DX camera is not WA. So yes he might want a 10-20mm Zoom. Or any of 10mm, 11mm, 12mm, 14mm prime (DX) lenses.

I have a Sigma 10-20 paired with my D7000 that won't break the bank. I think it's f3.5 or 3.8, one of the two. It's a great lens. At 10mm, the field of view covers about 5' at a distance of about 2' from the eye.

The Nikon 10-24 is a great WA lens to go with your D5500. I use and love that lens with my 5500 and could not be happier. The Tokina 11-20 is a good lens but it is pretty large, offsetting the great light weight advantage of the 5500. A few millimeters at the wide end are much more noticeable than the same mm difference on the tele end, so the difference between 11mm & 18mm, though 'only' 7mm, is much greater than the difference between 70mm & 80mm. And 18mm is 18mm, whether it is a fx lens or dx. Someone suggested a 18-35 fx lens but that is no wider than your 18-140 dx lens. Good luck with your search.

I get really good results with my Nikon 18 - 35 MM. Good wide angle and low light. Extremely sharp focus. Nikon D7100 camera.

Take a look at Rokinon's 16mm. It's in your price range. I use mine on my D7100 all the time. Great lens to photograph Milky Way as well.

I have and enjoy my Nikon 12-24mmDX lens on my D300 and D7100 cameras. You will not go wrong by purchasing one. I also have the 10.5mm Nikon fisheye lens. I think you should go for the 12-24 lense, u will not regret it.

The sigma 10-20 f4 is a fine lens the f3 is even better both suit your camera and price range good luck.📸

The Tokina SD 11-16 f2.8 (IF) DX II has been an excellent purchase for me. I got it from Adorama for $439. It is aspherical and I have been pleasantly surprised at the lack of distortion using it on a Nikon 7100. The 2.8 gives you an advantage when the light is low.

Sigma has a "very" wide angle zoom (8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM) for less than $700.....

you could try the Tamon 10-24mm 1:3.5-4.5 ive been using for 3 years. ive got some great shots from it. that being said you can expect vignetting. I payed 350.00 for mine its a good lens for the price. I have up graded to the Tamron 15-30 2.8 VR which is my new fav.

I have a Tamron SP AF 10-24. I have had great luck with it and it is not badly priced.

You will receive many valuable suggestions. Generally wide-angle has not been a priority for me and the widest prime wide I have is the Nikon 35mm f1.8 which I never used. However, a very interesting and useful lens is the Rokinon 8mm Fisheye. I've used it a lot, both on my Nikon D7200 and on my Sony a6300 (With the Fotodiox adapter). When I discovered the Heme Fisheye software, I also began using it as a wide angle lens, with good results. The same lens is sold under the Samyang and other names. Well made piece of equipment that has led to a wide range of artistic expression.
