I purchased (used) a 14-80 pro lens for my Nikon 7100. It is really a great lens and produces very sharp images. It is versatile and produces photos with wonderful bokeh effects as well as sharp images of landscapes and architectural scenes.

You don't mention where you are from, I have a great 10-20mm Nikkor lens, wide angle for sale as have upgraded to FF and want to put money towards wide angle for FF version, It is a lovely lens. Not sure of the price just yet as have only decided in the last few days to sell it along with a couple of other DX lenses. If you look on Ebay etc I will match the price and go a little lower.

Hello, folks.... my first foray into a forum like this. I'm relatively new to DX photography; about a year back I bought a D5500, which I use nearly all the time with its 18-140MM kit lens. I like the quality and bokeh I get when homing in on my wife's flowers. I also enjoy photographing our non-cooperative cats. Have been thinking about a wide angle lens and ask for people's experiences, preferences, guidance, etc. I wish to remain married, so must limit the cost to less than $1,000. Boss would surely say much less. So, I look forward to advice, posing questions, and maybe every so often throwing in my two cents. Thanks, Lou

I have the Tamron 10-24mm and the focal lengths it covers are perfect. I use the 24mm quite a bit in landscape, so I would recommend it over some of the wider lenses. The Tamron is a fine lens, but the Nikon is probably a bit sharper. You would save money on the Tamron.

I purchased the Nikon 12-24 a few years ago and was very impressed by both the quality of the lens construction and the exceptional sharpness of the photos. It is expensive but I found a used lens at a reasonable price. If buying used be sure to go to a respected dealer. People on this site have excellent suggestions on where to buy.

Sorry folks made a slight mistake, I was only looking at the end cap when writing, it is actually a Sigma 1.4-5.6 DC HSM lens.

Welcome to the forum. I have a Tamron 10-24mm wide angle zoom that I use on my Nikon D7100 (DX) camera. The lens was slightly lower priced than the Nikon 10-24 and much lower than the Nikon 14-24 FX lens. The Tamron exhibits a slight tendency to fisheye at 10mm on my D7100. Other than that, it is pretty good. Keep in mind that any lens that you put on a DX camera will have a field of view aprox 1.5 times the focal length. Meaning that that 10-24mm DX wide zoom will appear on any camera to be a 15-36mm lens. Having said that, if you purchased an FX wide (say the 14-24 Nikkor FX zoom, it would still act like a 21-36mm lens on your DX camera but would act its 14-24mm on any FX camera. The DX lenses would automatically shift an FX camera to DX mode. Neither of these situations are bad as long as you are aware of them. Personally, had my wife not bought the Tamron for me as a birthday gift, I probably would have gotten the FX version of the Nikon lens or at the very least, the Nikon DX lens. By the way, all 3 lenses have the focus motor built into the lenses so all will work on the D3xxx and D5xxx cameras in autofocus mode. Lenses without the Silent Wave Motor (SWM) or internal focusing motor would be a manual focus on entry level camera. I think the Tamron is about $700 or so and the Nikon 10-24 is about $800. The 14-24 FX is about $1600 so is a non-starter for you.

I use the Tokina 11-16 on my d7000. Extremely capable and well built lens-great bang for your buck. Lots of gently used ones floating aound, as many people have switched to full frame bodies.

My favorite lens for my D300 is the Nikon 17-55. I just love this lens and it will not break your bank.

I read so much about using DX lenses on a FF, this is what really swayed me to sell, BUT if I could use them on my FF that would be excellent, I was worried about vignetting etc. The lenses azre Sigma 10-20 wide angle, Sigma 17-70 macro HSM 2.8-4.5 and the nifty fifty 50mm 1.4 G. I bought them all new so would love to hold on to them if they work, any opinions greatly accepted. Thank you

The Nikon 10-24 takes marvelous images. I got mine used but new condition on UHH for $600.

The only downside is no VR. That means you should use a tripod on most landscapes because you want low ISO and f22.

All Nikon DX lenses work on FX cameras in DX mode. But you only use half the sensor area; i.e. About 16MP with D8xx and 10MP with the 24MP FX cameras, i.e. d750 and D6xx.

On a D8xx you can use other image areas up to full FX. You need to test each lens. The 10-24 works OK in FX mode above about 18mm.

For what you want, I really like the Tokina 12-28mm f4 - especially for the wide range and inexpensive.
