Frank Bruce, my friend, remember you posted the original of your Drained Lake because the one you posted earlier was over-cooked... remember that? Okay, this copy I'm returning to the post is tweaked "just right" in PSE using the slider bars of Shadows & Highlights. It's all this photo needs. Any more cooking will only result in further frustrations in trying to "get this right". It's a wonderful photograph. Perfectly composed and exposed. You did a superb job. So stop trying to cook the darn thing further, you're giving me a headache!!!

Yeah Frank, I was referring to Sudique, when she wrote about trying to take photo of herself on the beach with her tripod and new wireless remote.
It is right above my statement.
Great job, would like to meet the horse!
You're welcome, Mr. Frank Bruce. Have you ever gone over the hill from Farmersville, CA to Death Valley Natl. Park and photographed there?

Smoke Break
It's The Eyes
Waitn' On The Train
My lovey neighborhood includes the Great Smoky Mountains. Here is a picture of a bird I took last week during a visit to the Cades Cove area. I am a fan of picnik which I used to photoshop the picture. I do tend to overdo it but would love to be critqued!

In my opinion . . .. this is a little too centered - if you left a little more room to the right of the bird . . . I like the B&W vignette, but it seems like the feathers are a little washed, too - was that your intent? I bought a superzoom so I could get images of these living jewels!

I'm jumping on your bandwagon on the HDR issue, crudasill. I want my photographs to look as natural and realistic as possible, as close to what the eye sees naturally with its own 20/20, so-to-speak. I make every attempt when pressing the shutter button to get everything ahead of time, including composition, as close to perfect as I'm capable of doing--thereby leaving as little as possible for PhotoShop to correct.

They're HDR. Processed to look surreal.
More than half of them are HDR processed. This would make me feel inadequate as I am HDR-challenged, but I mostly also don't like it. I am clearly in the minority on this issue, so what it ultimately means is I'm just not going to win any contests if that's what judges want. That's okay. I'm not terribly competitive about my photography. I like it when people enjoy it, but I don't need official recognition.
Most HDR looks phony to me. I am told it's possible to use it without it looking so fake. I am sure I'd like it better if it wasn't so obvious and probably best if I could look at a picture and see a picture ... not "ah, HDR." I actually LIKE soft colors and textures, but it's not fashionable. I hope it will come back into style. I miss it.
Anyway, I figure HDR iis fine if it's what you want. As for me, I live here on Earth, so I'll think I'll stick with pictures that look like like home.

My thoughts are it may not be quite appropriate for a photo contest. It may distort the natural beauty of the picture or hide it's flaws. I'm just guessing...because I don't know a thing about it! Another subject I'll have to learn. hehehe

I agree with you completely..I am not a huge photoshop fan. Just thought I'd let you know..you are not the only one with this way of thinking!
You're right, I should have centered the bird differently! I may try it again and see how it turns out. Thanks for the critique!

I agree with you completely. I am not a huge fan of photoshop, I too like to see the picture as it was taken. Just thought I would let you know, you are not the only one who thinks this way!
