My problem is - I build all my own computers - and crapple is a closed box system. While I love the thought of Linux (and if I was just building file servers, THAT is what I would use) the breadth and span of software available for that OS isn't a drop in the ocean compared to what's available for winblows - and for that reason, winblows is on the VAST majority of desktop and laptop systems (crapple is currently listed as having a 7.4% worldwide market share). From US Govt desktops, all throughout corporate America, it's microsnot (MS) or bust. MS used to be the upstart long-shot everyone was rooting for to Kill IBM's OS-2, and they did. Now MS has BECOME the IBM of software - Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss.

Have you ever had a brain transplant?

Can't say that I have but that was one of the dumber comments I have seen on UHH and I have seen a lot of stupid comments. Maybe it's because I don't get it. I see you're from San Francisco, my home town. One more reason I'm glad I left.

I don't recall much (if any) learning curve from XP through 7. I expect that a new version of Windows (ie: Win 10) should be as easy to navigate out of the box as the earlier versions. If it is meant for computer savvy people who relish the "learning curve", then it should not be forced on us less computer savvy people.

I agree with you I have been using Win10 since day one on all my PC's (5) and my wife'e 2 PC's there hasn't been a single problem.
On the latest update which I have been using today and I have only noticed one difference, when the start icon is left clicked there are 4 buttons to click on, shutdown/restart, setting, file explorer and your MS account.
Some other function have moved to the top left corner eg, Expand, Pinned Tiles and All Apps.
I quite expect to discover changes more as I continue to play around with the latest update.

I just took a look at the start button and it appears to be the same as earlier Win 10 updates. A cool trick with the start button is to right click, not left click, and the tools and short cuts that were in Win 7 are there. You can also check out Star Docks, stardock.com, Win 10 programs. There is a program called Start 10, $5, that will give you additional control over the Start Button, and they update it on a regular basis. Start 8 made the Win 8 usable for me as I could then stay on the desk top and not bother with that Metro thing.

My disappointment with Win 10 is the right click has been dumbed down. Right Clicking on programs is what makes the Win world more useful from Apple. What would take one or two clicks now takes 3 to 5 to do something. This is what happens when you try to be more like Apple.

Sorry you didn't get it. It was a sarcastic way of saying that installing a new OS, doing an upgrade, and these major updates to Windows 10 are very large and the equivalent of a brain transplant for the computer. That's why these big updates take so long. Anyhow, hope you're enjoying Nevada.

Well I must be missing something about this update. It's been a nightmare so far. Pretty much every program I try to run, File explorer, DP4, even the recycle bin, ends up "not responding".

You have 30 days to revert to your old version of windows.
Maybe - - if the restoration process actually works
After that, your old version disappears (AFAIK)

You don't need a notification. Just go to setting and click on update/security. Your system will check for any outstanding updates.

On the computer where it wouldn't load I had to rename hidden file "$Windows.~BT"
The installation created a new one. When I renamed the original to the same name it gave me the option to merge them.

Although the IE icon disappeared from my task bar, a message came up that Microsoft recommends using IE as the default and provided a button. I guess their "Edge" browser wasn't so popular.

I'm sorry I didn't get your attempt at humor. But you are assuming something that isn't true (you know what they say about "assume"), that I updated my computer from Win 7 or one of the 8s. I was talking about a computer I purchased a few months ago from Costco that came preloaded with Windows 10. My laptop computer that came with Win 7 still has Win 7 installed.
