I just installed the Windows 10 Anniversary update on my Windows 10 system.

Lightroom and Photoshop still work perfectly, none of my photos have been deleted, none of my edits were undone, all of my plugins still work.

DxO Optics Pro 11 still works, nothing is missing from there.

Nothing has been moved to a secret location, no files are refusing to open, Armageddon has not been launched.

For those that like Classic Shell, a word of caution, for now: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/08/04/classicshell_audicity_infection/

Good luck

I don't fear Windows 10, I strongly dislike having to hunt for things that were only a click away in Vista and Window 7. Windows 10 is loaded with obnoxious junk that getting rid of affects other programs. I spend much more time trying to get to programs that were simple to utilize on startup in previous versions. Improved by Microsoft? Maybe to a computer geek but not to this aging computer user. I am seriously thinking of deleting Win 10 and paying for Widows 7 to replace this monstrosity on my new computers. I have not heard all that much good about Windows 8 so will go with a previous OS.

I agree completely! I spend way too much time looking for things that used to be 1 click away.

So far, the only thing affected was to update the video drivers so as to use OpenGL in PS. This was the desktop. The notebook accepted the update with no ill effects noted to date.

I received an email from Brother about my printer and the Win 10 update. The email read:
"This notice is for customers using Win10 OS.
The next major update to Windows 10 is scheduled to be released on August 2nd, 2016.
After your Windows 10 PC has been updated you may no longer be able to print or scan using the USB and Network connections. To resolve this issue, you will need to uninstall the existing Brother software and then reinstall it."

My printer worked OK yesterday, no problems. However, it looks like the update was applied last night when I shut the computer off. I will have to see what happens today when I fire up the desktop.
The email went on to tell how to uninstall and reinstall the software.

My computer downloaded the update last night when I shut it down and then installed it this morning when I turned it on. It took 45 minutes to install. Is that normal? I've never had any updates take more than a few minutes.

Bill.
Good idea, but I don't think dragging works in Win 10, at least not in my version. However, a right click on an app does afford the option of pinning to task bar. My task bar looks like the Sunday cartoons. Loaded!! I love having icons for my apps there!

One of my computers did not install the update yet. Except for the message that said it didn't install, I never would have known.

For those who are having trouble locating programs, as you find your most used ones drag a shortcut to the task bar, then set the task bar to auto hide. It gives you a clean desktop and your programs are always right there.

Yes. This was a complete replacement to your OS.

Win10 works fine
You do lose more autonomy though - - no choice but to eat their updates
and who knows what info they collect on you in the background.
I was actually FORCED to switch from Win7 to 10 - because SOMETHING killed my network adapter in 7
Restoring to 6 months back - - NO JOY.
Updating to 10 - yeah - now all is right with the world.
I still say - microsnot sux - but they are the only game in town
No - - don't even talk to me about crapple or linux.

It works if you drag a shortcut, maybe not the file icon. But right click and pin is just as easy. Either way they get there, having it all on the task bar works. It is kind of important to "edit" once in a while and unpin those things you don't use much.

You are correct on that Bill.
Thanks,

No issues here with the latest Classic Shell. However, I always have my "protection" on and don't ignore warnings as the article says those who were infected did.

Crapple is too expensive. Linux won't let some of my programs in.

I do understand those type concerns and frustrations. As an aside, isn't that also true for a new car/home/device/camera ... ? There is always a learning curve. What I take issue with is all the criticism thrown at Microsoft for EVERYTHING. Much of the difficulty lies with USER error and or a lack of patience to learn a new OS. I had to rent a car due to an accident with my 2012 Honda Accord. It took me over an hour to find how to turn the lights on and off, start and shift the car and two days to figure out how to listen to my music files on a flash drive in a 2016 BMW SUV. (I did not have to pay the rental fee ). Loading Win 10 without some prior study/research, ... or at minimum after installation, is analagous to buying a new DSLR and never reading the manual. And an Apple IOS is no different. Neither Windows or IOS is intuitive. It takes a great deal of learning to negotiate and become comfortable with either. Just my thoughts. I'm not attempting to debate. Just expressing my opinion on frequent criticisms aimed at Microsoft. I am also aware of some of their suspicious marketing techniques. I certainly do not support or applaud those.

Have you ever had a brain transplant?
