Thanks for all the replies--a lot of good ideas. We were able to find a Best Buy store today and found both a charger and battery a lot cheaper than I imagined. Those would be good candidates to leave in the car. But I also think packing my small point & shoot is so important. It was quite difficult to use my phone when we were horseback riding yesterday and I wouldn't have wanted the 60D. I am still migrating from my film SLR to DSLR and finding it a lot more than Ianticipated.

I went to Instanbul in 2004, forgot the charger for my Mac PowerPC left it back in the states. Discovered my mistake when unpacking in Instanbul. It was quite the cultural adventure, but I managed to locate the one Apple store in all of Instanbul, (at that time) where I paid an exorbiant price for a replacement. I still have it as a souvenir.

Did it work OK or was it a real Turkey?

Lol!!

It worked fine. Well it did tend to get considerably warmer than the original, but it charged the battery just fine, in Turkey. But it is useless here in the states. Wrong plug, wrong voltage.

As I never know what I'll run across in my daily drives - I live at 3,000 ft in the forested foot hills of the Sierras here in CA 15 mi from town. I keep a Canon SX30, 12 volt cigarette lighter charger and extra battery in my car 24/7.

The little Nikon Coolpix would have be good through my visit through Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. I picked up a battery and charger along the way in Grand Junction, CO as had been suggested. If I had been more photo centric as I had hoped this would have been great. But alas, my wife had dragged me off in the Canyonlands of Utah more that my desire to shoot, I will post a few pictures, but none came out as spectacular as if I were given the time and circumstances. For the most part there were snapshots and remembrances of our trip. Some day in the not too distance future things will change.

On the other hand... I have been exposed to the UHH and been able to glean memorable tips and ways to make better pictures, thank you all... Hoping that I might share them in the future with you. Digital photography is definitely different from the old film style.

There are camera stores between RMNP and Canyonlands...I know there is one in Moab and I believe Grand Junction before Moab.

Probably also a Best Buy.
