I like Corel's Aftershot. It is simple and does most of the major post-production functions. Another option is Fastone which is free and there are others..

I had not heard of Aftershot before...will check it out!

I use Fastone for simple adjustments. It is free and very powerful and will also do RAW. Right click any image and select choice. Works well for me.

I agree, Faststone is one of the easiest PP programs to use and does a lot of things very well.
You won't need to spend hours learning how to use it. And it's free!

will

Laura,
Take a look at Irfanview and the plugins available for it. All is free, and the guy does provide a decent amount of support, if it is really needed.

Hello. My Dad is approaching 80 years old and tends to get overwhelmed by a lot of complicated photo editing software. I am looking for a free or under $50 download for an SIMPLE editing software that would be easy for him to learn and use. Something where he could just crop, adjust exposure, easy stuff. If there's too much on the screen he will get overwhelmed. We've been looking for awhile and everything seems too complicated for him.

I sympathize with the complexity issue. I am 4 days from turning 86. I have taken a different approach. I have tried (sometimes unsuccessfully!) to minimize the amount of PP processing that a photo requires by doing most of the work in the camera. That is not always possible. Don't know what your dad likes to photograph. But it might be an approach that reduces his frustration level. I have a canon 6D and the software (DPP) that comes with it meets my needs. Picture taking is supposed to be fun. I try to bear that in mind when I screw up. Good luck with your search.

There is a product called Firestone which is free downloaded from the web.
It has basic editing tools and downloads from any camera to your computer.
I use it for downloading (because it's quicker than my Canon software) and as a file manager.
Give it a go - be interested in what you think.

Don't pay any attention to who ever sent you that private message. We do have some assholes on this site but like a lot of sites you will always find a few here and there. Just don't even waste your time answering him. I'm 82 and your question was well understood. If you have any other questions you just ask them for most people here are willing to help....Rich

Chicopee is correct. I got the software name confused with the name of the tyres, ie, Firestone vs Faststone.
Sorry to mislead you it was unintentional. FastStone Image Viewer is the name of the software you should try.

Sorry about the mistake but as long as it didn't confuse you that's ok. Don't forget the tyres - they're important.

Thanks everyone! I'll be up to Illinois visiting Dad in a few weeks and we agreed to try out Faststone and see if we can figure it out together and write down a work-flow for him to follow to make it easy for him. Your kind words and suggestions are appreciated!

My Dad and I talk a lot about getting it right in the camera, which I feel is always best...but we find there's a lot of need for cropping so we're going to try out Faststone and if that doesn't work, we'll take a look at the Canon software that came with the camera. Thanks so much for your response!
