Hello and Merry Christmass. I was wondering what could I purchase instead of PS? Where I live I do not have unlimited internet. I have a hotspot with only 15 gb per month, and thats $80.00. I already have Lightroom but just wanted something to fill in the gaps like removing blemishes, wires, people. Thank you for reading this,Dave

If your on a Mac AffinityPhoto is worth the $50 it costs. It also runs most photoshop plugins. Apple have voted it their app of the year. It's worth looking at if you have a Mac, otherwise Elements seems a good option.

.....Seems that after a few years you would have two completely different and incompatible programs....
And, indeed, that is the way it is!

[quote=bsprague]A very strong combination, purchased on disks, is Lightroom and Photoshop Elements. I used that combination for a few years and enjoyed it.

I fully agree.
There are many processing programs available. I suggest downloading the free 30 day trials and decide which one fits the bill for you.

Lots of choices. If you want to use Adobe, get Lightroom. There are other programs available, many for free.

PSP X8 will do it, and more.

Use GIMP, free of charge, does not use internet at all but for the initial download.
If you use windows 10 your bandwidth is clogged with data leaking out if your PC all the time.

Take Rongnongno's advice and try GIMP. It's free. (I hope that's not a problem.) It has been recently updated and runs like a dream.
Download it from here: http://www.gimp.org/

I was discouraged from considering GIMP way back, as it has a steep learning curve and not anywhere the same as Adobe or other stuff. But then probably most competing programs are, out there i guess. But then there is the intuitive thing, and when you grasp post-processing I think you are better equipped to try another program.

GIMP is great as it is FREE and very thorough in what it can do (compared to PS as I have read)

Hi David,
why not try Zoner Photo Studio, I have used it for years and consider it is very easy to learn and use.
It's a Czech company and they send useful tips regularly on various photo ideas.
The latest version is now upto 18 and now has an excellent full screen photo viewer, why not give it a try:

FWIW - I tried GIMP awhile back, was easily lost in its complexity... BUT, after working in Photoshop & Lightroom for over a year now, I am very comfortable in Photoshop and use it much more than ever before - and going back to GIMP is much much easier now. I keep GIMP on my machine and uptodate, and every now and then pop into GIMP from Lightroom just as easily as round tripping from Photoshop.

You may also consider looking at Affinity Photo and MacPhun's various image editing tools, all available at reasonable prices.

If price and convenience are factors, you might also want to take a look at ACDSeePro 9 which is an all-in-one PP program for several hundred dollars less than PS and would avoid your having to use 2 separate programs. I have been using ACDSeePro ever since v. 2 came out several years ago and love it -- the new v. 9, which was just released a couple of months ago is a vast improvement with a lot of newly added features. They also have a free trial period for you to try it out.
