It became available July 29th. I had it installed by 9AM.
I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate. Been playing and learning it ever since. I agree, it is awesome. I think Microsoft has a winner here. I am having some issues with Cortana but I think its me. I can't seem to sign on using the right old password it is looking for. All of my existing programs transferred over perfectly. I am really glad I bit the bullet and installed it.

good shooting

Does upgrading to Win 10 involve re-installing all the programs that run on it? :?:

I didn't reinstall anything. Everything worked fine.

We loaded it on 4-year old Dell that had 7 on it. Also on a Dell laptop that had 7.

It works fine on the desktop, but on laptop the videos would not play in the "movies and TV" link or in Windows Media Player. I did a quick fix for my wife by installing freeware (the VLC Player).

At the same time, I upgraded ram on the desktop from 6gb to 16gb. Everything is running faster, but I don't know how much of that is attributable to Win10 and how much to 16gb ram.

I was also going to install a USB 3.0 PCI-E card to upgrade frm USB 2, but the Dell power supply doesn't have a 4-pin DC output to use for the card. Do I have to get another power supply (don't really want to do that), or are there adapter cabels available to go from 6-pin output to 4-pin? More research needed. ;) :( :?

My other laptop is a Sony VAIO, and I'm in line to get it upgraded, but haven't gotten the notice yet that it is ready to download. Is there a link to the "installation file" that you guys have referenced on this thread? Or do I just need to be patient and wait? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Is freaking AWESOME, Downloaded it last night, about 3 hours to download and install, I don't have high speed internet, my first thought was if it's this slow, I not sure I want it, but let me tell you it's like driving a Ferrari, Smooth, Slick and Fast.

Windows have a little different appearance even running programs like photo editors and things, but it's all good.

viewing your photo is really cool and has a neat little photo editor for minor fixes, it's cool to.

had no problems what so ever missing anything, the only hiccup was photos did not recognize PSD files so I ask Cortana about it, had to do a fix on windows live essentials Not uninstall but repair and it fix that.

it beats windows 7 and 8 hands down, I love it :-P :-P :-P

That's what I got too...So I'm waiting. Good to hear positive experiences though, and that you do not have to provide product key.

Here's the link to the MS download site for WIN10. However, I fail to see why you didn't just download the installer onto a flash drive since that's the prescribed method for when you need to upgrade many machines. Just start the INSTALLATION by clicking on the routine from the FLASH DRIVE.
You can use that method for numerous machines without problems as long as they all qualify and have valid registration and KEY CODE NUMBERS.

MS DOWNLOAD WEBSITE LINK:

I would wait for the upgrade from Microsoft. There is always a possibility of someone or something might be added.
You could possibly try http://www.komando.com/ or http://www.cnet.com/
I also have 16 Gigs of ram. All of my Photography software seems to be working fine.

Good shooting

Just installed it also. Everything went flawless, except for one minor glitch. When I started, I had two working monitors. After install I had one, and the display settings screen refused to recognize the 2nd display. So I looked for Control Panel, and of course couldn't find it. After finding it, found Device Manager and was able to correct the problem. Seems like everything is working. All my icons are in place. Everything now seems to be working.

Before starting, I cloned my SSD that I boot from, just in case. Used Acronis True Image 2015. It makes an absolute image copy of the SSD which I stored on another small hard drive. If anything were to go wrong, I could immediately restore that image.

I am making the image of my 2nd PC right now, but haven't got the update invite for that PC yet.

You don't need the invite. There are two files from Microsoft. They are

1)Mediacreationtool for 32 bit
2)Mediacreationtoolx64 for 64 bit.

They will only initialize the install on the bit depth already on the computer. Heed that.

There are two choices when you run the file correct for your machine. (32 for 32 and x64 for 64bit)

First choice... Upgrade this PC
Second choice... Create media for upgrade (something like that)

I upgraded a 64 bit machine, and I also created a USB bootable install for clean install on a new machine or new or formatted hard drive.

I have both the 32 and 64 bit files. Be sure to get them from the Microsoft site. There appears to be some hacking/scamming going on with Windows 10 upgrade. Read about that last night.

These files will NOT upgrade an illegitimate or non-authenticated PC. Turns out one of my machines recently purchased did not have a legal copy of Windows 7, so I formatted the drive and loaded and authenticated my legal copy of Windows 7 64 bit. It then upgraded perfectly.

Have about six computers running Windows 10, and 3 were using the MediaCreation files from Microsoft.

When there's alterations or improvements, they come to you through updates and you can't turn off updates like in previous WINDOWS iterations since both security and program updates will come as downloads and in background. I'm not even sure they will tell you when they send out updates. i can't find the old listing for "Installed Updates" anywhere so they may have eliminated it all together.

Whoops. No link attached. I would have downloaded the installer to a flash drive, but didn't think of it. If I can get the link, I can then download the installer to a flash drive and go from there.

Yea...I corrected my thread entry and included the web address after I sent out my original thread entry. ME BAD.

Here's the MS download link again:

You can download an executable file from Microsoft. You don't have to wait for your cue from Microsoft. Overall an excellent upgrade from 8.1. No problems with Lightroom or Photoshop.

Mostly attributable to Windows 10. The new Windows 10 has an exceptionally smaller foot print than previous versions, even including XP. The second performance boost is in the simplicity of the screens. The screen ?improvements? since XP have increasingly been a performance drag with each new version.

In fact, Windows XP, Vista, and 7 all had a utility to increase performance (built into the system) that actually decreased the complexity of the screens.. fancy shading, splashy colors, etc. The utility allowed users to shut down by check box about 25 cosmetic features of the screen.

That's just one of a number of notable performance boosts I have been teaching in my class, Clean Up and Speed Up your computer. That class normally allows about a 20 to 25% performance boost in the average Windows 7 computer.

Anyway.. Windows 10 has removed or reduced those kinds of performance drags, and yet some are complaining about the sparse looking screens... Hey.. go back to 7... you don't belong in 10. It's not so pretty, but it's stable and hellish fast.

I'm talking to you on a 2Gb RAM Pentium 4 running at 2.4 Gh. 160 Gb IDE hard drive.

I'm running Windows 10 on lesser machines as well.

This is the OS that will recycle a lot of old hardware out of the closet.

My only rear has been that my video editors wouldn't work with 10. Are all of your W7/8 programs running as they should?
