I received the same email from Nikon. It noted that I owned a D800 so I assumed it was legit. I have learned look under the email address (mac) and see who really sent the email.
Of course a year ago I sold one of my D800's on ebay.
received email from paypal that it had been paid. It was a phony delivered to address out west and the police in AZ couldn't track the guy who sent it to someone else. Hmmm. My insurer would not pay for this criminal loss. So this post got gave me a heads-up again to emails. Good luck keep you camera at home.

I would only send my camera to an authorized Nikon repair facility and the closest one for me is in NY.

Further it appears this offer is legit. Google has many posting about this offer.

More interesting is I have followed Nikon for years. Why are they making these offers??

My mistake, yes D7100. Sorry.

i also have a 7100, but have not received any offers of free maintenance. weird. but then i talked to someone who wasn't using any protective filters over his lens & he said that nikon has always repaired the damage for free. so maybe nikon has a standing policy of free maintenance, but a haphazard way of contacting users about it.

I got the same email on my D800 sounds like a good deal, unless Nikon is hiding a problem an don't want to make a public notice.

I received an e-mail this morning offering a free maintenance service on my DSLR.

I am just wondering whether all Nikon users have had this same offer.

Just one problem: How can I part with my camera?

You have several Nikon DSLR's, right? I mean, you are a member here, and the trend is to accululate. :D

I bet it's because the D800 is an upscale camera, sold in fewer numbers, and it's been out there for a few years. This is a good way for Nikon to see how there top of the line gear is holding up.

EDIT: Yes - the D7100, too.

This is on Nikon Rumors web site, I would call Nikon repair facility to find out if this is legitimate.

Already done and reported earlier. This IS a legitimate offer but apparently not extended to every user. I Have no idea as to the parameters for selection.

No Jerry. MY D7100 was the third Nikon body that I purchased. I still have my FM, new in 1980, the D80 that I bought to replace that I gave to my brother to upgrade from his D40.

It looks like we are in our rainy season now, so I don't imagine I'll be out much so likely I'll just pack up the camera and send it off. I'm sure my brother will loan me the D80 if I need it.

I did call Nikon support and the offer is legitimate. I did not ask about the scope of the program so I can't tell you if you will receive the same offer, but I hope that you do.

I believe you are correct if you called Nikon directly and got that information. One caveat, did you call a number that was in the email?

I called Nikon this morning and the rep stated it was a random selection.

PR-damage control by Nikon after their globally-public fiasco with the late-lamented dearly beloved D600 sensor-shutter OOPS?

You have the perfect excuse to shop for a nice little waterproof camera.
