Like all of those duplicate prints that I have. You know, I got 2 prints instead of the 25% off. The only time it came in handy was when my daughter scavenged my photos.

ok yes guilty too, every now and again I do delete some. but saying that I also revisit some old photo's in pp as my skills and knowledge have grown

Exactly! I only incorporate 10% or fewer of my shots in travelogues I present publicly, but keep all the rest for personal and family remembrances. For that, perfection is unimportant.

I store all my photos on my external HD. Good ones and bad ones. Since I only take photos for personal pleasure I find it hard to get rid of them, even if they look similar or little off kilter but when I look at them it is a memory. I don't wish to get rid of those memories. So I will continue to hoard them.

I have working a getting rid of duplicates for a while. I made myself a promise to review all photos when down loaded that worked for a short time but fell to the side of the road when I was in a hurry one day. I really hate to get rid of some of the poor quality some day there may be some means of repairing them.

Going through my parent's and my wife's parent's shoeboxes full of old photos and slides convinced me that old photos, even if less than perfect had emotional value. So, I keep everything. My workflow is as follows:
On returning home from a trip, all photos taken (usually in the 3000+ range) are stored on some medium in duplicate. In the past the medium was DVD or BD disk. Now it is a couple of 4TB hard drives. One is stored on site, the other off site. (I have not yet gotten into using the cloud, but I may begin doing that.) The usable photos are transferred to my working computer for incorporation into travelogue slideshows. I usually have about a year of backlog being worked on. When the travelogue is complete, it, too is stored. One copy is placed on my presentation laptop for use.
It seems to me that gives me the best of both worlds: an uncluttered working computer, and infinite storage of everything. In fact, I have on occasion gone to storage for an image that I was able to incorporate in a show. I saved all my images from Vietnam in the 1960s as slides, and was able to use many of them in my Vietnam presentation after a recent trip there. So put me solidly in the "keep everything" camp.

I wish I could answer that! For me, I find it difficult to destroy something I created...no matter how bad...or how many time repeated. If you know of a solution to our image hoarding disease, please share.

We still have thousands of slides in a closet that we we are going to sort and scan the survivors of....some day.
