I don't see where there is any Metadata, I am very disappointed, I though it would be some-wares between I-photo and Aperture,
How do I take it off my computer?
Thanks

If you select (double-click) a photo, the you will see a little information icon (an i in a circle). That gives a small meta data pop up. It seems to have date, time, file name, camera, lens, white balance, file format, file size, ISO, f-stop, shutter speed, exposure compensation, rating. Not a reason to use it but it does show some metadata.

Here is my take on Photos. Being just a guy who takes pictures and just wants a way to organize them, I was happy with iPhoto. My wife got Aperture, and to me it was more than I wanted. That being said, I spent 2 -3 hours playing with Photos, and it is a real stretch to say that it is any better than iPhoto. It certainly is not in the same class as Aperture. Anyone who wants/needs real photo editing would be better served with something else.

Thanks, but i still want to get it off my computer. I don't want to accidentally move photos from my external drive to my computer drive.

There are a lot of programs out there to take software off. I have used a program called Appzapper forever. The advantage of programs like it, rather than just dragging the program to the trash (which you can do, but that I wouldn't do), is that it finds all the little associated bits of code/support files and removes those as well. It costs $12.95 and as I say I have used my copy for at least 10 years. There are cheaper versions of this on the app store. I don't know how good any of them are.

When I turned on my Apple computer today I got a message that new software is available for download. A new icon appeared on my launchpad. It's Photos!

It was not obvious how to import all the images that are being managed by Aperture into Photos. :?:

I keep my images on an external drive. I closed both Aperture and Photos. I then opened the icon for my external drive on my desktop. I then dragged "Aperture Library" on top of the new Photo icon on my launchpad. Something is happening, I think it's working!!! It's reporting that it's 32% done with "Preparing Library".

This seems to be working.

I'm going to set the computer down and not touch it while it's doing it's thing.

See you later. :)

I read a while ago that Apple is working with Adobe on a photo editing product. Is this it?

Does it store full images in its library like iPhoto, or only thumbs? Gotta be able to edit in external program. iPhoto lets you!

You can always copy the original out of the Photos media file to whatever external program you choose....make the changes or other mods then save the photo back to the same folder you copied it from with a new name, then go back into Photos and import the photo into the program, just like you would import any pic into the program. Only one or two extra steps.

Just studying all the materials, but looks like Photos is coming up short other than the feature of having your photos available through the cloud. Thinking it might be best to get myself up to speed on PhotoShop and then put the photos I want to share into a folder and import it ito Photos.. Anyone else have thoughts about this as a workflow?

I've been using Aperture for years, after I graduated from iPhoto because it wasn't meeting my needs. Of course, I was quite alarmed when I heard Apple was going to do away with Aperture, as I have tens of thousands of photos in my Aperture library. And from what I read here Photos would be a step toward a somewhat improved, but not completely improved, iPhoto.

A couple of years back I signed up for a class in Photoshop at my local community college. However, I quickly discovered that it was not nearly as intuitive as Aperture and decided that Photoshop was not the tool for me so I dropped the class and continued along happily using Aperture – until I got word of the changes Apple had planned.

So now I have a few questions which I hope knowledgeable people on this board can answer.

1. Am I correct in understanding that installing the next version of the OS will automatically replace iPhoto with Photos and move my iPhoto library into Photos?

2. Will the installation automatically do the same with my Aperture library or will it remain untouched until I decide to move my library to Photos (right now it seems highly unlikely to me that I would do that)?

Of course, question #2 is critical to me. I would like to know that my Aperture library is not going to be affected by a system upgrade, otherwise I feel like Apple has really screwed me over (and other Aperture users as well!). Although I'm already feeling the Apple screwdriver bearing down on me (and others like me)!

Until I get a response I'm not doing any upgrades to my system…

Thanks for your help!

P.S. This is my first post to UHH, although I have been reading it for some time.

Re-read the first message in this thread.........the answer to question 1 is yes.......according to the first message in the thread, it looks like your Aperture files will be safe till you move them.

sounds good.....there are additional rumors from the Apple Rumors sites that Apple intends on upgrading Photos as they go with more "Pro Tools" to make it more "Aperture" like. Or should I say more Pro friendly.....

Regarding your question No. 1, MY EXPERIENCE was the iPhoto icon was removed from the dock and the Photos icon appeared in the dock. When I opened Photos, there are no pictures. You have to manually select the libraries to move from iPhoto or Aperture to Photos. iPhoto is still on your computer. I opened it from the Finder menu and replaced it in the dock. The pictures I moved from iPhoto to Photos are still iPhoto, and it is my understanding that you can use both iPhoto and Photos, however any changes made in one will not appear in the other; i.e. they will not synchronize.

Regarding your question No. 2, by downloading 10.10.3, it is my understanding that there is no effect on your Aperture files. I say this because my Aperture files appear to be unchanged. I am trying to get more comfortable with Photos before moving anything from Aperture. Hope this helps.
