USAF, 1974-1978. AFCS (MOS) 32853 Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist. (radar detection/jamming)
I was in during the Vietnam War, though I am not a vet, I didn't serve there.
I won't take the bravery/courage away from those who were there.

Joined the Army in March, 1965. Basic at Ft. Dix (India Co., 3rd Training Regiment). Spent 4 months at Redstone Arsenal learning electronics and then another 10 weeks at Aberdeen Proving Ground learning the FADAC - Field Artillery Digital Automatic Computer) system (MOS 34G20). Assigned permanent party at Aberdeen in Calibration Maint. maintaining the computers used in the school.
Was sent to Vietnam 6 months later (July 1966) when the first 700 person levy hit Aberdeen. No one had any idea what to do with my MOS, so sent to the 17th Aviation Grp. at Nha Trang. Spent a lovely month hanging out on the beach until the 1st Sgt. told me that "If you're gonna be one... be a Big Red One."
Sent to 1st Inf. Div. base camp at Di-An where, of course, no one had ever seen the FADAC. In typical Army fashion, I ended up driving tractor-trailers and tank recovery vehicles for the 701st Maint. Bn. Extended my tour another 5 months and processed out of the Army at Oakland Army Terminal in February 1968.
It was an experience. The Army training stood me in good stead and I spent the next 38 years working on computers for AT&T and BellSouth.

Yes Iowegan, you are a vet, like me, USAF 68 to72. I haven't worn the Vietnam Service medal out of respect for those that were there.

Wanted to re-boot this for new members who may be Veterans,
Thanks,
Overly Hackled
I thought it would be of interest to the Veterans who are members of UHH to have a place to post what Service they were in , what there MOS (Mode Of Service) was ,and when and where they served. My guess is there are quite a few Veterans both young and "seasoned" that use the site.
Suggest we try to keep politics out of the thread. We all served our Nation and that is our common bond.
All Veterans of all Eras both men and women tell us who you were with and where you served.
I served in the US Navy 1969-1972 as a Gunners Mate. Did a tour in Nam as a twin .50 cal bow gunner on PBR's (Patrol Boats, River) '69-'70. My Unit was River Division 594, part of Task Force 116. Most of our ops were up along the Cambodian boarder. Finished up doing sea duty on The USS Ticonderoga, an old WWII vintage flat top. I made E-3 twice. Adherence to Military Discipline was not my strong points.
God Bless America and those who defend Her ,Past, Present and Future.
OK who's next?
