Add Sony to that list

As I got one to try for free, I had no money invested in the MKII other than a slew of Canon lenses. I prefaced it this way, because I didn't want to give the Yugo impression. When people first bought Yogo's they were the best car on the road. Turns out they were junk, but purchasers had money invested and didn't like the impression they made a bad investment.
I tried it and one word summed it up. Wow!! The high ISO performance is what impressed me the most. And then there is the speed. 10 FPS with a buffer that will hold a ton of shots, before the camera slows down. Lastly the build. This ain't no plastic pos it is a tank.
If there is a gripe it is the shutter is so fast that the buffer fills faster than normal cameras, but you have a lot more photos.
I liked it so much I bought one.

If this is the case, I guess I will always be behind the times with my camera. I started with Canon around 1980 and I will never change brands. If I ever do, then I have to change all my lens etc. I don't have that kind of money. So back to my original Question WHO has one now and how to you like it and Why? Thanks!!

You tell em. Good for you.

I have one and I love it. I don't shoot wildlife, but I shoot hockey games and it is fantastic, the best I have ever had. You can't go wrong, the prices appear to be going down on Ebay, if you use them. Good luck and go Pats (from an old New Englander)

I have the original 7D, and I have been shooting birds and wildlife since buying it in 2011. It is still a very good camera for that purpose. I know it only has 18 megapixels and a 19 point all cross typed auto-focus system and a paltry 8 frames a second burst mode, but it still works for me. I use a Canon 400mm f5.6L prime lens and get excellent results with the proper settings and technique. I shoot mostly handheld. In fact this is the only lens I have for this camera. With all other photography I have gone mirrorless. I have no need to upgrade to the MK2, especially at $1800. My point is if you need a camera for shooting mainly wildlife and birds then the original 7D is a very good value right now. You can find some great deals on the original 7D including a refurbished one on the Canon web sight for only $680. You can find new ones for under a $1000.

I have one and use it for sports photography. The auto focus is outstanding and I can use high ISO settings to produce good results in low-light situations. Well worth the investment.

Casey - relatively new to the digital realm, I've been using cameras from "N". That said. I recently viewed a field test of the 7D MkII performed by two extremely capable pros, one of whom works for Nat. Geographic, that KNOCKED MY SOCKS OFF! If you haven't already seen it search YouTube for it under Nat. Geo. I think you will find it worthwhile.

Hi
I currently have a 60D. I love my camera. I am looking to add a 2nd camera mainly for wildlife and birding. I just read up on the 7D and like all the features and a big upgrade for me on the focusing points.
What I would like to know is, anyone that has the 7D II how you do you like it and why?
The reason I want a 2nd camera is there are times I want a shorter lens on my camera, but I don't have time to change lens and the object is Gone.
Thanks, Cassy

Cassy, I have the 7D and the 7DMK II and I do BIF and wildlife mostly. I
love it because of all the selections it gives you, the high ISO ratio to noise.
I can do shots with it that would be throw away's with my older 7D. If
you are doing birds and wildlife and can't (As I am) afford the 1Dx then
don't let anyone discourage you from getting the 7DMK II. And I would
highly recommend the new 100-400L II lens. I upgraded from the older
100-400L and there is a world of difference in the two. That is my opinion on it and I know you will get lots of others so do the reviews and
look at the post photos. P.S I just did three straight nights of High School
Basketball Tournaments of four games per night with the 7DMK II and
the 70-200L II. A low light wiz and faster than greased lighting. mdh

Cassy,

If cost is an issue you might want to look for a nice used 1D Mark III which is a tank of a camera and can be had for less than $1000. The limitation is it will not use EF-S lenses if you have those, EF lenses only. It is a 1.3 crop factor camera.

Best,

Cassy,

Go for it. You will love it. It is the best wildlife, BIF, camera on the market right now for the money. I own one and love it!

If you can't afford the 7D2 look at the seven D's used.

I started 7 yrs ago or so with a T2i from Canon. Within a year I had a 50d. When I upgraded to the 7d (for speed) I thought I was done. I was in love. it was time for better glass and that's what I picked up next. Good glass is a game changer. Few yrs later my style of shooting opened doors that led me to a full frame 5dm3. I was once again in love. When the 7dm2 came out I sold my 50d and 7d and picked one up. I love it and use it for everything sports and action. The 5d is taking a much needed brake. Crisp, fast, low iso were all the reasons and it has not let me down. I use it in very cold weather and for hours at a time. I shoot football games in low light as well as snowboard races in poor light at night. The iso allows me to do so, where the old 7d would not. you will find that your 60d will sit in your bag once you make the change and you may still change lenses. it's that good. As for the Nikon vs Canon thing, I compare it to the Ford vs Chevy fight. I started with Canon and so I stay there. had my first been a Nikon I may today own them. I see more Canon in the woods and on the sidelines so..... Doesn't make Nikon wrong.

If you're looking for a second camera to carry around consider a mirrorless camera. I choose a Sony A6000. It can with 2 kit lenses and I purchased a 50mm f/1.8. This camera is rated very highly. Check it out.

The 7D2 and a 5D3 make a very good combination. They are the two cameras I now use all the time. I own the 7D but I'm selling it now, is replaced by the 7D2.

If you're shooting wildlife, especially BIF, or any action sport you can't beat the 7D2.

Joe, I think Canon has decided to take FULL advantage of loyal customers... and I don't mean that in a positive way. :x

This camera is 3 years BEHIND the competition, and it costs TWICE as much to boot.

Canon owners should NOT be suckered into spending premium money for a product that is not even CLOSE to what the market currently says is standard in terms of performance and image quality. :(

Nor should they be FOOLED into thinking that what Canon has to offer in the 7DII is anything BUT substandard when compared to the current state of the art for APS-C flagship cameras.
Joe, I think Canon has decided to take FULL advant... (show quote)

Your comment is based on what evidence and/or proof?

I don't have the 7D M2, but really find your comment interesting, but so unnecessarily inflammatory and disparaging. Please enlighten us with your facts. Thanks

I bought it because up until recently, I shot things that have not moved for centuries (think Roman Colosseum as an example). Now I am shooting wild horses. Enter Canon 7D mii. Now that I have that camera and finally upgraded to the L series lenses, I am not looking back. The speed and accuracy of the autofocus, the color rendering, and simply holding it in my hands (sometimes an issue....I am a small woman) are simply the best for me. I have all kinds of cameras (didn't know it was called GAS until reading it here!) and for the new work I am doing, there is no comparison. You sound like you need to catch moments quickly as well. So it seems this might be a good buy for those situations. Good luck with your decision!
