I say "I'm not interested". If they say one more word, I use the airhorn.

I like the idea of the airhorn, at least you'll clear the wax out of their ears.

My home phone rang yesterday. I looked at the Caller ID and it had my name and home phone number listed as the caller? How can that be? It was a telemarketer.

I get too many telemarketer calls every day. The worst are the recorded messages. I might let it ring till it stops, or I'll pick up the phone and put it down immediately, or I'll answer and tell them right away that I'm not interested and ask to be taken off their list.

Unfortunately, my doctor recently joined a large health conglomerate. When I get an appointment reminder or a call from the doctor, the caller ID say "800 Service," so I tend to ignore it.

I only give my cell number to those I might actually want to hear from. My house number - I NEVER answer it and just review any voice messages every other day or so. Makes life so much easier.

I tell them "He moved," or "He died," or I say, "Just a minute" and put the phone down and walk away. Come back in 5 minutes and hang up the phone.

As a subset of telemarketing, the so-called charities get really annoying at times (example... "Policeman's Benefit Fund raising money to take blind, deaf, and dumb kids to the circus).
I've found that by immediately interrupting their pitch and saying, "Sorry, I've been out of work for 2 years now..." has been 100% effective in ending the call. And I'm not lying either, I retired 4 years ago.

My favorite thing is when I answer a telephone from one of these goofs by accident is to tell them to hang on just a second and then put the phone down on the counter/desk and continue what I was doing. This kills there being able to call someone else. They hate this tactic.

This isn't simple telemarketing. I've had the call come in with my name and number on the caller ID. I only noticed my name and thought it was my wife calling from her cell. So I answered and the caller said I qualified for a lower rate on my credit card and wanted the number. So I googled this and as it turns out the scammers are using the called persons number because that is a number you won't block. They also use numbers of local businesses so that you are more likely to answer the call.

I've been on the "Do Not Call" registry for years. I don't think I've gotten 5 telemarket calls since I started using the list.
To each caller, when I surmise it's a sales pitch, I immediately tell that I'm on the "Do Not Call" list.

It's been several years since I subscribed to the "Do Not Call" list. At first, got hardly any unwanted calls. As time went by, more and more solicitation calls emerged. Now, I get several per day.

It was my understanding that charities were exempt, as well as any business you have had dealings with. I now get calls from my mortgage company, insurance company as well as any political action group that I may have made a donation. There are many more that I can't think of. Oh, yes, the power company and phone services.
