My home phone rang yesterday. I looked at the Caller ID and it had my name and home phone number listed as the caller? How can that be? It was a telemarketer.

It appears that the telemarketer can list any number they want. A friend in Florida says they are listing the caller as 911. The "Do Not Call" list is not doing as well as I would like. They need to actually do something to abusers like these.

I am on the Do Not Call list too. It doesn.t seem to stop them or even slow them down at all. I was very strict on telling everyone in the house ... If you don't know who it is, don't answer the phone. Let the answering machine take care of it. I do know that a telemarkerter or a bot marketeter is voice activated. If you do not say anything when you pick up they will not respond.
On another note ... Do not pick up and call back anyone with a 809 (Dominican Republic) or 876 (Jamica) area code. If you call back you will be billed a huge amount of money. I chaecked it out with Snopes and it is a real threat.

You are correct, the "do not call" list isn't doing much... well I really can't say that because I get only a couple of calls a week on my cell. Who knows how many companies honor the list and don't call me.

I did a reverse lookup on a number yesterday, it's on the west coast and the company is flagged as a telemarketer.

Seems to be happening all over. Maybe try this message on your answering machine: "Hello"(about a 5 second pause to let the turkey crank up cause they think you just answered)...then "Hello ?"(breaking the momentum of the turkey, another 5 second pause while the turkey wonders what just happened)...then, "maybe leave a message if you're not going to talk to me."

Annoys the fool out of your friends until they get used to it, but it costs the turkey the price of a call.

I read the no call complaint requirements (at least Connecticut's procedures.) What a joke in my opinion.

I agree. It seems that they do not want to get involved with one person's complaint. I wonder what they get paid for?

I get those from my credit card company. They will give me a lower interest rate if I have a balance of $3000 or more. Why would I need a lower rate when I usually carry a zero balance. I pay it off in full every month. They don't see any logic in this. My credit is perfect. Never late on any bill. Why is my interest rate 22% when it was supposed to be 6.9% forever?

I get calls on my land line all of the time - it does not ring and goes straight to voice mail - I check every morning to see how many calls came in the previous day/night and delete the all. My family and friends have my cell number and none of them call my land line. I use it for outbound calls to businesses and stuff.
Cell phone - I can block numbers with my cell phone so if I get a call from someone I don't know or want to do business with - I just hit the button to block the call and add them to my blocked list - works great.

I say "I'm not interested". If they say one more word, I use the airhorn.

This is great. I did this in 1980 with my homemade answering machine back in Philadelphia.

My wife ask me the other day about the house phone, calling itself? I told her, "of course it did dear".

I have been on the do-not-call list for several years and until several months ago I NEVER got a call on my cell phone that I didn't recognize. Now it seems I get 2 or 3 every day. If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer. I can't remember the last time one of them left a message once they get to my voice-mail.
