In the classifieds why is it nearly always Canon for sale and seldom Nikon?
The answer is obvious, if you have a Nikon you are not going to get rid of it.
I await the insults.
No insults on my part! Every photographer is different and when a camera is selected it is usually because it has the features we need or use more often, because it feels comfortable in the hands and in many cases brand loyalty.
Modern cameras, regardless of brand, are excellent tools and they all have a good assortment of interchangeable lenses.
I cannot tell which brand sells more often than the others but it could easily be Canon and perhaps that explains why there are more Canons than anything else for sale in the second hand market.
I bet you do not see a Pentax for sale that often in the second hand market.

You very seldom see Sony gear for sale either. Part of that is because Sony has a very small but fanatical part of the market.

Even if the statement had truth, it would mean nothing. How many Canons are sold versus Nikon? How many were sold five years ago versus Nikon? Why are they being sold - do people love their Canons so much they want to upgrade? The useful statistic would be the percentage of Canon owners who upgrade to a new Canon and the percentage of Nikon owners who upgrade to a new Nikon. Or owners who buy the same brand as gifts for loved ones.
Toyota says something like "90% of all Toyotas sold in the last ten years are still on the road". That is a meaningless statement - since 90% of those sold may have been sold in the last ten years could have been sold in the past five years. Their implication of course, is that 90% of Toyotas will still be driving in ten years - but they won't tell you that. The statistic you would really want is the percentage sold TEN years ago that are still on the road.

Not really typically an insulter but I sold two nikon bodies, 5 lenses and a bellows, two flashes and some filters because i was getting out of photography! Could not take it and got back in three weeks later with a canon and two lens and a lash. Been a canon user for the past several years. I still do photography with my Nikon buddies and we lean on each other about it but it is all in good fun - - - i think !!
You know I started this as a bit of fun. Don't take it seriously fellows, they are all good.

I think all the brainwashed Canon owners keep buying them in hopes of finding that one that will match up to a Nikon! 8-)

A camera is a camera. I use Canons but when I've finished with them, I sell them and move on. It's the photo that counts not the camera,

I have 3 Canons now and may part with the oldest as 2 are enough. I have tried Nikon but they didn't suit me for various reasons.
When out I take notice of what other photographers have (DSLR's) and it always appears to be mostly Canons and not much more than about 10% Nikons.
That would certainly be an answer to your question.
I should have qualified my message about getting out of photography and selling my nikon and lenses, getting back in with a canon three weeks later. I purchased the equip used from a friend. I agree sir they are all good.

Six months ago I went through the classified and came up with a 10 to 1 ratio (Nikons 10 Canon 1)
Could be sellers of Canon are upgrading to the 7D MII

Ebay has 4,084 Canon bodies and 4,970 Nikons, whatever that means.
