In the classifieds why is it nearly always Canon for sale and seldom Nikon?
The answer is obvious, if you have a Nikon you are not going to get rid of it.
I await the insults.

Ebay has 4,084 Canon bodies and 4,970 Nikons, whatever that means.
Jerry, you actually counted them? You need to get out more, buddy!

As I said elsewhere, I sold my Nikkormat several thousand years ago because I could not keep it out the shop, switched to Canon and never looked back... Maybe that is why Canon is most popular. Think Nikon is more reputation tho? BTW, if I have it correct, Nikon is "Nipponese Konica" a gift from Adolph in the 40's...

Not really typically an insulter but I sold two nikon bodies, 5 lenses and a bellows, two flashes and some filters because i was getting out of photography! Could not take it and got back in three weeks later with a canon and two lens and a lash. Been a canon user for the past several years. I still do photography with my Nikon buddies and we lean on each other about it but it is all in good fun - - - i think !!
Aha! Now we know. Did you really think you could leave photography? I tried that once, when someone stole my camera, but it didn't work. It was a terrible experience, being without a camera. I just went out and bought another -

Hey, I'm retired. :D
I went out one day last week. That was plenty.
Used a pair of F-1's for a long time, now it's eos. I feel you get more for your money with canon.
I did give up one of my 50D's toward a 5D mk III.
But it's more about the lenses. I have more money in lenses than I will ever have in all of the bodies I've used.
Eight years ago I went to Yellowstone with a point and shoot. I saw lots of photographers with Canon. Was told if I wanted to shoot wildlife to get Canon and I did. Very happy with my Canon.
Hubby got Nikon and he's happy with that.

Wait a minute! That doesn't make sense. Only one camera can be the best. How can people be satisfied with different products? Sounds subversive to me. :D
In the days of film.Nikon were smaller to fit into a women's hand, so were considered a "woman's camera". Canon were considered a "work horse" and were favoured by "in the field" journalists. Olympus were favoured by boy scouts and other homo-sexuals. No-on liked Pentax.

You're right - I read it on the Internet, so it must be true . . .
