In looking at one page of listings I get a ratio of 10:1 Nikons for sale vs Canons.

Why are there so many more Nikons for sale here than Canon including lenses?

The only reason I notice this, is I am always looking for a good buy on Canon "L" Lenses.

One side will tell you that more Nikon lenses were preferred in the first place, the other that once one gets a Canon, they see no reason to part with it. Take your pick. :)

Nikon users often upgrade to higher end Nikon lenses and bodies.

Canon users lose too much money when they sell their equipment
so instead of selling when they switch to Nikon, they will usually either give the equipment to a family member that they do not like or chuck the equipment into the donation box at the local Goodwill. I am sure that there are exceptions though.

From my observations, there are a lot more Nikon users on this site than Canon users. It might just be a numbers thing.

Well, I guess everyone is looking for a good buy on Canon L lenses. I have seen a few here from time to time but they go fast. Good equipment is like money in the bank.

This kind of thread really is pointless and I wish we could stop having these Nikon versus Canon debates. The truth is that Nikon and Canon both make excellent cameras and lenses. Period. As to the fact that you are looking for good buys on "L" lenses, I suspect that Canon users who already own an "L" lens have thought carefully about the purchase since they're expensive so they have no need or desire to get rid of it.

have owned Nikons since the first "F". never had a problem with any of the upgrades to more capable & finer lenses. Owned 2 Canons. Both went in for repair in less than 1 year. Just sayin......

I just put red pinstripe tape on the lenses I have. Works for me.

I remove the red pinstripe and color in gold hoping it will change to a black lens.

Lauren, I'll kill several birds with one stone here. And there will always be exceptions.
Old people tend to shoot Nikons, and there are a lot of old people here.
I've been in school for several years now. First question every semester, who shoots what? Most young people shoot Canon.

Canon sells 30% more camera gear. Check ANY large Craig's list market. If there are 1000 Canon listings, there are 700 Nikon listings. Try it!

I have only sold two lenses.
An EFs 15-85. Cost me $525 new. Sold 1 year later for $625.
A 500mm f4. Bought used for $4900, sold one year later for $5900.
If I sold ALL my Canon gear right now to switch systems, I would easily make more than I paid. That is pretty darn high resales.
I actually stood next to the donation can at Goodwill once, waiting for some good Canon gear I could use. At the end of the day, all there was, we're a couple of useless d800's, so there goes that theory!!

What IS true, is that many have shot Nikons since they can remember. Their fathers before them shot Nikons. So, when you've had a Nikon stuffed into your diaper since you where a baby, and once you get used to it, it's pretty hard get rid of that bulge and still feel manly!! 8-)

Lauren, I'll kill several birds with one stone her... (show quote)

Many good points. One I've heard on a slightly different take is to count the white lenses at the Olympic games when they come around particularly at the swim meets. Canon is very well represented there and out numbers all colors except white. Not too sure but from what I've seen on the NFL side lines, it looked like a pretty even distribution.
