When I get a new body this is exactly where I start. This can be confusing and only working with it will make it clear. What I do is to carefully read that section, with the camera at hand, and check everything out while i'm reading.

That's what I still do when I run into something I missed. And there is a "ton" you could miss in a 340 page manual.

If it makes you feel any better, I am relatively new to photography, and I find BOTH interfaces incredibly confusing. It's like trying to understand Japanese vs. Chinese for someone who speaks neither. But I am determined to learn. After a butt-load of research, I finally decided to go with Nikon (D5300) and was told that although it is probably a bit more difficult to learn than Canon, it is a better camera for what I will be using it for -- taking pictures. :p I kid, of course, both brands are great, but my tastes & personal preferences pulled me toward the Nikon, and I don't regret it. Good luck - the D750 is an AMAZING piece of equipment. Enjoy it!

Have any of you folks who have moved from Canon to Nikon found the Nikons to be incredibly NON-intuitive?

I've had My D750 since Friday night and I've not taken a shot with it because I'm so confused about how the damn thing works. The menu system is ridiculously unclear. The back LCD won't stay on so I can see my settings...even formatting a memory card is not as easy as it should be. :(

Any good tutorials out there?

Return it for a new Canon 5dIII.

It is just what you are accustomed to using. I have been Nikon since forever and find the Canon menu system to be incredibly stupid. Of course it is not, but their design philosophy is just different.

I have had Canon users in some workshops I have conducted and THEY cannot figure out how to find things in the menu OR in the Manual. Same true with Nikon.

Some people are just not wired for anything technically complex. When all else fails dial in green and fire away. When I went to digital in 1999 I chose Canon (S10 ELPH) over Nikon (which I had used for 30 years in the film world) because I thought the hardware and bundled software was more intuitive user friendly. Since then I have had six P&S and five DSLRs and have been happy with all.

Get Darrell Young's book Mastering the Nikon D750 Absolutely the best explanations of every function along with suggestions.

You have an amazing camera. The sensor is so good it stays almost noise-free up to 12500 ISO. I've seen the pictures; downloaded originals from the web and cropped down to a tiny portion. If I could afford it, I would get one. The Canon menu system is different but the Nikon is easy once you get used to the change. I have a Sony A6000 and the menu system is also different. I'm having a heck of a time getting used to it.

Persevere. It will be worthwhile.

To all concern Nikon users of any resent Nikon camera or flash unit. You can down load Nikon app on your smart phone or tablet of their manuals ( Nikon manual viewer 2 ) for free. By doing so you can have these manuals at your exposure at anytime, when needed. Hope this be of help. I read cameras manuals before making such purchase. This allows me to be more familar of what a item of interest has to offer. Price for the Nikon D810 is having a $300.00 cut as B&H offers free camera bag, 32Gb memory card as well as a Watson battery. I get mine delivered on the 17th.

This will be my first Nikon full frame DSLR. As many, I too look forward as excitement flow through my vains.

Life IS is a never-ending learning curve in many respects! The Douglas Klosterman books ARE good. I have the one from his D7000. Did not know the D750 one was out. I'm going to get the electronic version so I can take it with me! Keep plugging along - you'll get there.

I got my print manual for my 7D Mark II today. I'm sure you can get a manual for the Nikon 750 from the same company. Just go to manualsink.com. The manual for the 7D Mark II is 543 pages. I checked to have it printed from my CD, the price would have been $300.00. I got this one printed and bound for $30.00 I paid a little extra for large print.

I'm not looking to turn this into a canon vs nikon thread...but trust me...canon is easier to understand. their menu lay out is cleary done. plain english. etc, I can't even find items on the nikon system. Wanna by an un-used D750?

I have never heard so much garbage , cannon is no different . any one jumping into that caliber of camera should know at least the basics . but you
don't know the first thing about cameras . like I said any one getting a camera like that should know some thing . but just from what your saying you would have trouble with a $300 rebel canon or a nikon d80 . I would suggest
you get reading . I don't have a d70 but I know for sure if I got I would know every thing about in a week . you got to walk before you can run . theres nothing wrong with the camera it's mostly the operator at fault .
