Have any of you folks who have moved from Canon to Nikon found the Nikons to be incredibly NON-intuitive?

I've had My D750 since Friday night and I've not taken a shot with it because I'm so confused about how the damn thing works. The menu system is ridiculously unclear. The back LCD won't stay on so I can see my settings...even formatting a memory card is not as easy as it should be. :(

Any good tutorials out there?

All I can say is, read the manual, or go to the Nikon site and download the PDF.

nikon menu can be a bitch compared to my D70.
My instruction manuals are always on the desk and have more dog eared pages than i like to admitt.
But its worth it, you can set that 750 up any way you like.

I'll agree with NON-intuitive...
I spent a week with the manual and my D610 learning the menu and playing with setting. Still getting used to the twist being opposite from cannon for zoom and attaching lens...
Still have a lot to learn and train my brain to do without thinking - practice - practice - practice...

If you are having difficulty understanding some aspects of your camera you can always call Nikon for help. 1-800-645-6689. As far as your LCD not staying on long enough, there is a setting for this in the main menu for increasing the length of time your LCD will stay on. I had the same problem on my 800E and I called Nikon and they were very helpful with fixing the problem.

I'm not looking to turn this into a canon vs nikon thread...but trust me...canon is easier to understand. their menu lay out is cleary done. plain english. etc, I can't even find items on the nikon system. Wanna by an un-used D750?

How much, I haven't seen one that is, I am an old guy. These new fangled, high tech gadgets drive me crazy, but when I get it figured out I love the results. I think the person that translates the manual from Japanese to English should be hung or shot or at the least fired.

Never had a newer Canon… but I know exactly how to do fix/adjust everything you mentioned on my D800 - so I imagine you'll get used to it. ;)

I fully expect I'd be lost on a Canon though, and may find it frustrating…

However, this is what I have learned to teach myself new software… which is essentially what you are complaining about. I have had to teach myself a lot of software titles. Tackle each issue by taking the time to look it up, read all about it, and then you'll understand. AT first the learning curve is steep- straight up, but as you put each issue behind you, the learning curve begins to level out.

Or go to Lynda.com and get the tutorial- LOL- this is the shortest shortcut of all.

That's a lot of money to spend on a camera you can't figure out. I don't understand the switch. I have always used Nikon since the early 1970,s.

You probably suffer from two distinct problems. One is if you have been using Canon for years, the change in interface for the menus will be different from Nikon, and that is to be expected. When I am in a class room at a school, some of the teachers use Macs, and others prefer PC. I find using the Mac interface very confusing because I don't use it all of the time.

The second issue is the cameras nowadays are much more confusing in general because they do so many more things that most people never use. If I had my say so in designing the menus in the camera. I would eliminate 75 to 80 percent of the garbage on board and use the space for shooting buffer.

My suggestion is to go to the store you bought it from, and ask one of the sales persons to help you out. If you bought online, you should have had the skill required to interpret the manual before the purchase. Again, a lot of money to spend on something you know little about. Kind of like being above your pay grade.

Don't get frustrated. Take the manual and go through one thing at a time. You'll do ok and have a great camera to work with to boot. So good luck.

trade for a D70?
I've spent a couple hours trying to set back button focus on the d70 and can't find an option that works the way i want.
I'll fgure it out eventually.
Fortunately i don't own any auto focus canon lenses.

It is just what you are accustomed to using. I have been Nikon since forever and find the Canon menu system to be incredibly stupid. Of course it is not, but their design philosophy is just different.

I have had Canon users in some workshops I have conducted and THEY cannot figure out how to find things in the menu OR in the Manual. Same true with Nikon.
