td, I keep hearing , mostly from the more militant opposition, that Canon has nothing new, no innovation, yet for the last 20 years, as Canon goes, so goes the entire industry.
Ok SS, I get it, you're in love with Canon but they do say that love is blind. We all know and accept that Canon led the way in Digital Technology which is how they attained the No.1 spot but the trick is to retain that position. That's becomes problematic when it's clear that the opposition, largely because of Sony's superior Sensor Technology, is doing a better job. It may be that with their next Sensor, Canon will skip ahead of the competition and retrieve the situation, we'll have to wait and see but in the meantime, things in the Canon camp are less than perfect. Household names have been known to fade into obscurity when they lose the plot.
Taking some of your points in order .....

Take a good look at your camera, any brand, what do they all look like?! They are ALL ergo shaped black plastic with a grip. Where did that come from? From the Canon T-90 almost 30 years ago!
So, what about the Minolta 7000i (Maxuum 7000), the world's first AF SLR which preceded the Canon T-90 and has that familiar shape of which you boast.

IS/VR, the electronic coupler, focus motors in the lenses, those are BIG innovation.
These are not big innovations, they are refinements of existing tech. In any case, I would argue that IBIS is a better solution, in camera focus motors extend the life of our older lenses and that Sony provides both. We all have electronic coupling, just implemented in different ways.

Auto focus video, people have been wishing for that since dslr video emerged. When nikon finally implements it, Canon will be on to using the second generation AF.
Who cares about Video. Still, if you do, it seems clear that Sony has better AF in Video mode.

Obviously, DR is great, but it's NOT the game changer many think it is. The best DR is like a band-aid compared to HDR!
Oh right! Canon lags behind in DR so all of a sudden DR is not important. Nice footwork SS even if you did add a !

The car with the biggest motor isn't necessarily the fasted one around the racetrack. Drivers being equal, it's the car that does everything really well that gets around the racetrack fastest and wins. That's what Canons do quite well. It's no wonder there are more Canons on 500px!
Is that an admission that Canon is not the best in all departments? There are more Canon pics on 500px because there are more Canon cameras out there; that's the result of being No.1 for so long.

Yes, that junky little 7dmkll with the noisy sensor and crappy DR is going to shoot circles around every other crop camera made. Canon has probably already sold more of them than any single model of any other brand model made today and they've only been out a month today! But some of the other camps will keep on badmouthing it. Can you spell j-e-a-l-o........  SS
Sound just like Fanboy commentary to me. It's not bad mouthing to point out that the Sensor in the 7D MkII can't even match the Sensor in the Sony A6000 at a quarter of the price and I think the A6000 AF does quite well too. Come to that the 7D MkII Sensor can't match that of the A77 dating back to 2011. If the brand new 7D MkII were such a superior beast, surely it should comfortably best the budget priced A6000 in all departments!
I'm not saying the 7D MkII is a terrible camera nor that you can't take good shots with it and neither am I saying that Brand Loyalty is wrong. We all have our share of that but to be blind to the advantages of the competition or the disadvantages of your own choice is downright silly.
