I hope this is a joke! If it is not I have my opinion.
I cannot speak on behalf of others but I have never being "red" when someone else wanted to buy a Canon or a Pentax or a Sony or even a Nikon. We are all different and we all have different needs and taste.
Yes, it all seems to indicate that Canon is the No. 1 camera seller in the world. Yes their lenses are very good. Yes many professionals use Canon and yes they sell more cameras than Sony.
I have used only one Canon camera and it was years ago a 30D. I sold it as fast as I am writing this. I have used Nikon cameras and lenses for more than 50 years and after selling the 30D I bought a D100 and the difference in quality was obvious right away. As I said, that 30D was the only Canon camera I ever used so I am not the person to ask about the quality of Canon cameras and lenses.
Canon cameras are fast, so you and Scott Kelby say but how fast is fast? I am perfectly comfortable with 5FPS and my old D2H is capable of 8 FPS. I think that beyond that it pays to buy a cine camera if faster is needed.
The sensors in Canon cameras and I refer to modern sensors are of excellent quality especially when it comes to noise. Nikon has used for years sensors made by Sony being the LBCAST used in the D2H the only sensor made by Nikon that I know of. Noise was ugly even when Nikon announced at the introduction of the camera that noise was under control, something that was not true. Modern Nikon sensors are very good too when it comes to noise.
The Canon 7DMk II could be an excellent tool but I would be very happy with a Nikon D810 although I have to admit that I do not need so many pixels and I am not a user of the FX format.
For your information and just in case you are interested, a few years ago there was a workshop held by National Geographic in Antarctica. The only cameras that did not fail were made by Nikon. In the more than 50 years that I have used Nikon cameras and lenses I never had a camera or a lens that failed to work under hot or cold conditions. I am going to say that to me that is reliable.

You're saying that everyone really wants a Canon. That doesn't make sense as well as the jealousy thing. The price point of equivalent camera models from the major camera manufacturers is roughly the same. If I wanted a Canon I would have purchased a Canon.

Mark Some people have no sense of humor at all! YOUR ONE OF THEM. Lol! When was the last that there was so many replies to a post on here. Sharpshooter keep up the good work. Your post certainly has produced some jealously on here. I have both the 7D cameras with 4 L lens and a 851.8. I'am not a pro, but do enjoy taking pictures, some really good, some not so good, but would probably enjoy using a good Nikon. My picture taking is in the fun of doing it.
