Why don't you go ahead and treat me like I'm totally stupid and explain it to me, pleassssssse!

Dear Slick - I think you will find about 90% of the posts are not going to help you a lot with you photography. So If some subject you are not interested in comes up just go on by. With the nuber of posts to this thread I would say many are interested even though it will not make us better photographers. I know I have had fun remebering some of the old cameras I have had. This is just a fun post so if it is not fun for you don't read it. - Dave

Not the stoves I grew up sitting around - anyone toss out a list of 14 cameras worth about $20,000 would have been ganged up on, called a blow hard, and run plumb out of the general store. People I sat around the stove with learned to say things like, "aw, it ain't nothing but me and the missus likes it ok" right before they whip out a stack of photos that'd knock your socks off. And about the beer - I'm afraid I don't drink alcohol. Got no money left after I make my camera payments. :D

When I grew up there was no fast food, we only drank water & milk with occasional lemonaide as a treat. Mom cooked a big meal every night & you only got that as a choice of food. Mom's didn't work outside the home unless there was no man around. Times have changed, something's for the better & some for the worse. I don't think there is any malice in this thread. It is all in fun. Not like the threads that compare cameras & systems for bragging rights. For the most part, if you are not interested in a thread, it's best to not participate. I really don't think the originator meant any harm. Bab

They are all my favorites. I like my Fuji HS20, My Olympus TG-3, and my Canon 70D, Canon PowerShot A630, and Olympus Stylus. If I had to choose two they'd be the Canon 70D and The Olympus TG-3, Having the pair on me when I go out and about for a walk gives me tremendous capability.

Minolta Maxxum 7000i. Purchased new shortly after I retired from the Air Force in 1988. That makes it 26 years old. Don't shoot much film anymore but, it still a great camera. It had a spot meter before Nikon's competing 8008s came out.

I have the same model. It was bought in Hong Kong, but I can't remember the year. I use it very occasionally, and the photos are immaculate. The clarity and colour leave nothing to be desired. The only problem is sourcing film and getting prints made. Also each time I use it, it needs a new battery. I had only had it for a few weeks, when I was commissioned to take a series of photos of a burnt out factory, for insurance purposes. I got the purchase price back on that one commission.

I think "Raleigh" explained it better than I ever could with his comparison to sitting around the stove at the old general store. If you don't enjoy companionable discussion it's a waste of time; if you do then it is fun. Basically, it makes about as much sense as playing golf or bridge or anything else you do just for fun. Also, I apologize for my less than courteous previous comment, Thank you for your gentle rebuke.

I use several, but the oldest is a 1940 Argus C3. The Kodak Retina IIc (1956) is great, & one of the newest is a Pentax K-1000 (1977). Yup, using an old camera is the best.

Have had my D300 for about 5 years now and love everything except as my arthritis gets worse, the camera seems to gain weight. I've carried it all over Europe and the US, but there are times it just seems too heavy. Also have a Nikon P7700 that I can carry in my purse which takes great photos. I think I may be more psychologically addicted to my "big girl" D300, and need to start thinking that a lighter weight mirrorless will be just fine. Anyone else having problems with big heavy cameras?

I never had a DSLR and really want one but I too have arthritis in my hands and now carpal tunnel, so I am waiting and sticking it out with my 2 month old Nikon P7800.

I really like my Nikon DSLR, but the thing that actually made me choose it over the comparable Canon was that I liked its greater "heft." You might find that the lighter weight Canon would work for you.

My brother gave me a Kodak Retina II a couples years ago he got at a yard sale for $5 and it still works.

Why in the lord's name would you make this comment. You could just continue to lurk. Or, you could not read something that you have no interest in. I, for one at least, have found this an interesting thread, and I get no sense similar to yours. You will find that positive comments are better than negative ones. I often find that if I have nothing good to say then I should just read on. Unfortunately, I have made an exception to my own "rule" in this case!
