Refurbs direct from Canon with same warranty as new. Scroll down to the point and shoots. Decide what zoom range you want then pick one.

I found ACDsee software out of Canada to be very easy to use and quite inexpensive. I used their regular version for many years and switched to their Pro version a couple of years ago. You might want to check it out. I believe they offer a trial version also.

Your 14 year old granddaughter is probably more computer davy than you may be giving her credit for. She is of an age that she can learn Photoshop CC more quickly than you think and it will last her a lot longer. Consider Adobe's Creative Cloud for $10.00 a month for both LR5 and PSCC. Good luck.

How about a app as powerful as PS and sells for exactly $0? GIMP.

Sorry. Gimp is no where as powerful as Photoshop!

I bought my 14 yo granddaughter a Nikon refurbished Nikon D3200 kit including Nikkor 18-55mm VR, Nikkor 55-200 Vr and Lightroom 5.
Total cost from Buydig.com $399. I'm going to keep Lightroom and need a recommendation for a very easy to use post processing program for her to use and learn. Thanks....

Depends on your granddaughter's desire for photography. Photoshop may be too much to bite into and way more capability than she needs. Tough learning curve too. I used Paint Shop Pro for many years before switching to Photoshop. I'd recommend Paint Shop Pro. It will be way more user friendly and gets rave reviews!

That's only true when you neglect how customizable Open Source apps are. GIMP offers about 1000 plug-ins.

Photoshop is the industry standard. Enough said. To say that GIMP is as powerful as Photoshop is ridculous

How much experience do you have with GIMP. It can outperform PS with a 1000 plug-ins.

I can recall I had a collection of 2500 photoshop plugins (single CD) about 10 years ago. There are couple of entries online for a 10,000 photoshop plugin set on 3 Cds.

Thanks to everyone for your informative suggestions. My granddaughter has decided to to go with Picasa for now and then move up if the interest continues.
Enjoy the day.......

Never used GIMP, started out on Photoshop, like a previous poster stated there are 10's of thousands of plugins for PS, and that is just the tip of the iceberg!!

Ask youself this question. If GIMP is as powerful as PS and is free, why is there not a mass exodus to GIMP by all the Photoshop users, I think you know the answer. If you are a casual user and have no "heavy lifting" to do I would imagine GIMP will do.

And since the app is an obscene price how much are the plugins?
