I bought my 14 yo granddaughter a Nikon refurbished Nikon D3200 kit including Nikkor 18-55mm VR, Nikkor 55-200 Vr and Lightroom 5.
Total cost from Buydig.com $399. I'm going to keep Lightroom and need a recommendation for a very easy to use post processing program for her to use and learn. Thanks....

Your 14 year old granddaughter is probably more computer davy than you may be giving her credit for. She is of an age that she can learn Photoshop CC more quickly than you think and it will last her a lot longer. Consider Adobe's Creative Cloud for $10.00 a month for both LR5 and PSCC. Good luck.

I don't know, if I had a granddaughter that was at that age with a new camera, I would not give her any PP program till she learns the basics of Photography and camera operation before she is inundated with all this PP complexity. If she does not know much about Photography, have her take classes or watch youtube videos, books...YOU before getting into PP programs. :)

Give her the Lightroom and a good book on how to use it, she will probably surprise you. Most 14 year olds are very computer savy, Lightroom is user friendly and the interface is very intuitive. Let her rip!!!

Learn by doing.

No point in wasting time learning a product deliberately crippled for people who don't give themselves enough credit. Elements will quickly become frustrating. With Lightroom on the front end, and PSCC on the back end, the frustration is initial and short-lived. Then she will be able to grow with a software solution that will grow with her.

As has been said, go with GIMP if your granddaughter wants to get serious. It's a free program and if she does not take to Photography, no loss. Download it from here: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
Go to the fourth line down and click on the FTP link for a clean Windows version.

Beware of other GIMP download sites as many attach unwanted software to the program.

For up-to-date GIMP tutorials go to: http://www.gimp2tutorials.info/downloads.htm

These are Pdf files and you can print out individual lessons as required. Practice images are also supplied if she needs them.

Gimp will do more than needed for a beginner. Once they learn Gimp, all updates are free from "open source" org. Plugins work. Photoshop is an "I do Photoshop" badge of snobbery. Adobe is as arrogant as "Nortons" use to be when they were the only game in town. Nortons now begs on street corners with 100% rebates.... so goes Photoshop.

I have a purist friend who claims the photo should be perfect "in camera" .... well OK, that is ideal.... give your Grandchild info on composition... perhaps several books.... perhaps send to a friend who is an artist not a photographer. Beginners stick the head in the middle and take sky above and junk right and left... they do not have a clue regarding lighting, lots of info on ebay. You give her lessons using a goose neck lamp. .... Get creative.

Right! LR can be easy or difficult. All she has to do is start down the right column, moving sliders. As she gets more comfortable with that, she can try other things.

tv.adobe.com has very good free videos.

As I have said often on UHH - use the free and safe Picasa from Google. If you need anything more you are either a pro. or should think more about the pictures you are taking.
