Yesterday in Knoxville I had some time to kill while my wife was shopping for various crafts and there really wasn't much to shoot but I did spy some electrical towers.

When life gives you lemons...

Great shots. I wonder what people thought when they saw you lying on the ground under those pylons.

You mean you did not go in the craft shop with your wife!!!! My husband just sits inthe car, he takes a book, he knows I will be a while................
But great shots, yes you do have to crawl around and not worry about the on lookers!

Actually all the shots were done in standing or kneeling, the grass was wet and I didn't bring a tarp or plastic sheet to lie down upon. I did almost fall over a few times with all that looking up and turning around for the right angle. I was half expecting the cops to show up and ask me what I was doing but they never came by.

I am a sucker for repeating patterns, angles, and linear progressions. I got some good shots from the Thai food place where we had lunch, but not enough light for IR, they were all visible light.

It was an all day trip with a visit to Jo-Ann Fabrics & Crafts, a yarn shop, a quilt shop, two Asian groceries and Bass Pro Shop (wonder which one I picked). We also hit two different restaurants. We don't get to the Big City very often and so we pack a lot in when we do go. We also scouted out the new Trader Joe's location, opens in June!

I also take plenty of reading material, cameras, and try to work in a nap if possible. The yarn & quilt shops weren't in neighborhoods where I felt safe walking around with several hundred dollars worth of electronics hanging off of my neck, so reading and watching TV in the Men's Lounge (the quilt store had a leather sofa and big screen TV, sweet!) took up part of my time.

I never worry about what other people think when I'm taking photographs, unless they wear a badge and/or a gun ;-).

To change someone's life in a positive way is high praise indeed, thank you very much!

I almost didn't recognize you, are you doing some self portrait work? Try a few in IR but I'll warn you, the eyes get funky so stay back from the camera or don't look directly at the camera, unless you want huge black holes in your eyes. The iris and pupil merge into one giant dark spot in the eye.

What camera are you shooting with? You might have to do it 'Old School' with a tripod and seconds long (3-30 second) exposure at high ISO. Most cameras can shoot IR that way, for the price of a filter it is worth a try.

Hi Eric,I'm shooting with a FujiS1800,I can slow the shutter speed,but I don't have a tripod.Maybe for my next b-day...I have taken some shots with slow shutter and elbows braced on something...but they need work :) :) .J.

Jen,

Get a bag of rice or beans out of the cabinet, find a sturdy surface to set the bag on (a wide fence or deck rail, a table or even your car). Set the camera on top of the bag, find a nice sunny subject and place the filter over the lens, set the ISO to 800 or so and use the camera self timer. Play with the shutter speed until you get the exposure you like 3-30 seconds should do. It can be that simple.

Um, do you have an IR filter yet?

Jen, I know what you mean, since I started taking pictures you do see the world in another way.............one thing I was told once, always look behind you, you may be focussing so much on what you are seeing in front that there may be something behind you are missing.
