Due to massive popular demand (OK, one person suggested it), I thought I would open up an IR posting thread. If you have any IR pics or IR questions this will be your go to thread, hopefully.
For a brief overview of IR photography visit Wikipedia:

I'll do my best to answer any questions about IR you have and if I can't answer them I'll direct you to a website that can.
Now then here's a few IR photos of mine, I'd love to see some of yours.
Looking forward to your posts,

Here are a few pictures I did in a digital IR class. I haven't done too much with this because of the long exposures involved. All were made with a Nikon D300 and a IR filter and then processed in Photoshop.

Tommy,
You have a great eye for B&W which, I think, translates into a great eye for IR.
Please check out my first post's link to the IR board, I think you will like it very much.
With a 'modded' camera, or just one that is sensitive to IR light amazing things are possible.

Steve,
Post more soon, an unmodded camera gives a lot of freedom, all you have to do is change filters to go from visible light to IR.

As soon as we get some full moon nights, I'm going to try some night IR photography. The G12 has a pretty decent sensitivity to IR, so I should be able to pull it off. I will have to set a manual focus for a general zone though, say 10 feet or so to infinity. The camera in daylight can still autofocus, but with that nearly black IR filter, I know it wont be able to even with a full moon.
I'll get some more shots up as soon as I can, a bad back has slowed my getting about down quite a bit, but I still do as much as I can.

thanks for the pm and yes i had already followed the links and made a bookmark i couldn't see any photos on irphotocom but i do like what im seeing here, i shot the moon in black and white and other subjects(nothing worth posting yet) and looking forward to finishing the read on wikipedia thanks.
Steve,
For inexpensive handheld IR check out ebay and Craig's list for an Olympus C-2xxx series camera. The C-2100 UZ or UZI is the one I use but the C-2000 and C-2200 are also very sensitive to IR light. The UZI goes for around 100 bucks but the others go for 20-30 bucks. Then all you need is an R72 filter and you are good to go for IR.
I also have the same Manfrotto tripod with a Vanguard GH-100 pistol grip ballhead; perfect combo.

The G12 is pretty sensitive, I used the lowest ISO of 80 @F4 in the test shot, time was 1.6 seconds. If I were to set to ISO 400 @F2.8, I would probably get something near a hand hold speed, maybe with a little leaning on a post bracing. :) Although with some small amount of noise! I would suspect.
I have two heads for my Manfrotto, the one that came with it. Called a Compact ball head #496RC2. Also a real neat 3D head #MA460MG, a glorified pan & tilt, but with more complete adjustment in all three axis; sort like a gear driven head. This one is Magnesium. And I also replace the feet with the retractable spiked ones, so I now have a 190XPROB++ tripod. :)
