Thanks Wendy, I will try that too.

I really want to get a handle on this IR stuff in the next few weeks. I am going to Rome in Feb. and think this could be awesome there!

Architecture, landscapes, cemeteries, street photography, and of course 'out the window' aerials on the way to/from Rome. Here's a link to my aerial photos thread: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-13759-1.html Mostly color but a few IR over there. IR really cuts through atmospheric haze.

Don't get so wrapped up shooting IR you forget to get your visible light shots, that sometimes happens to me!

Also you might want to do some IR & visible light comparison shots standing in the same place and capturing an image in both formats.

When you get back start a Rome thread, I'm sure you'll have a ton of photos to share. In fact you might start a Rome open post thread to give you ideas on what to shoot when you get there.

I love UH, it inspires you to take photographs and then gives you a place to share them!

Looking forward to images from Rome,

Eric

Thanks Eric, I will have to be careful not to forget the "other" camera. LOL...I just think there will be so many cool things to shoot in IR.

Here's a quickie I shot today, with a few adjustments in PS. I'm just beginning to play with this.

So Tess,

What'cha shootin' with?

When beginning with IR go for strong, bright sunlight over most of the image, this will help the contrast pop. As you get some experience you will be able to pre-visualize in IR and introduce more shadow. Use spot metering over the brightest part of your image and lock exposure there and then recompose and shoot. This will keep you blowing out highlights, an ever present danger with IR.

Also remember if it is not a good composition in visible light, it won't look good in IR either. When I first started I thought the novelty of IR would make every image a keeper. I went from 1 in 10 keeper ratio of visible light to 1 in 100 keeper rate with IR at the start. I'm back to 1 in 10 keepers with IR, but it took a while.

Don't get frustrated, just keep at it; you will get better.

Now lets see some more images.

Tess,

With your permission, I'll work one of your images, post it back here, and tell you how I processed it.

Anxiously awaiting your reply,

Jerry,

What camera are you shooting with in IR?

Try more bright sunlight on the front of your subjects, IR responds well to that.

I got a Nikon D70 converted about a month ago. It wasn't very bright when I took that shot, but I wanted something to experiment with. The possibilities in PS seem unlimited.

Yes fun with Photoshop is unlimitited, I can sit for hours until I can't see straight! Anyway here is a picture I took on Sunday, a lovely bright sunny morning, we took the dogs to out local park on the river and I just clicked around. This was a nice shot with reflections, but look at it now.
Comments and critiques always welcome.

It looks like a sepia toned inversion, very interesting. You are only limited by your imagination.

Post more soon,

Eric
