Drivin' the back roads of east Texas, hitting armadillos was unavoidable. I'd always rate them on their roll in my rear view mirror.

Geez, what about the big buzzards around the Ark-La border areas. Remember having to actively avoid turning one into a hood ornament - often you'd see a trucker sporting a couple of big ugly buzzards in his grille.

That's just to keep them warm until he gets home to his BBQ grill. Yummy.

A "TRUE" Grits story.
In about 1967 Safeway a Safeway manager transferred from some where in TX to a store I was working at in South Lake Tahoe, CA - probably 1,200 mi from the Texas boarder and it's food and eating habits.
One of the first things he did was order 50 cases of Grits and make a large display. Of course we locals knew the sales of grits were more like a case a year - about 40 of those 50 cases were still there when he left 4 yrs later.

Up here in WA state grits are almost non-existent! In Kentucky we thought of grits as one of the food groups!

I'm from Minnesota and I enjoyed this one on American Pickers the other night.

The pickers were in Texas and at a junk yard they were visiting the man said he could tell the pickers were Yankees and then said, "Yankees are like hemorrhoids; if they come down and go back up, they are fine, but if they come down and stay down, they are a pain in the ass."

Now that's funny, but true, right there.

My daddy was a Southern gentleman (he called himself) from VA (Roanoke area). In late 40's we moved to Minnesota - where the jobs was - and we had to bring back grits, hominy and lentil every summer when we visited grandparents. Probably the only people in MN who ate grits!

I was born and raised in Michigan. I went to Nashville and was in a museum and talking to one of the staff and he said "You are from west Michigan". I was surprised and asked him how he knew. He said because of my accent and what words that I used. He studied language and said that he could tell very close as to where someone was from. He was very interesting.

My step-son is a paramedic - a very good one. He works off-shore as a medical and safety officer on the rigs. His bosses always like him. They use him as a translator when they need to get through to the rank and file. You see, Kevin is quite fluent in speaking redneck.

I had a horrible time when I moved down here 45 years ago, especially on the phone but I got it now! That midwestern twang is as foreign to me now as southern drawl was back then. And you yankees need to know that southern drawl is not the same as redneck.

They were born there and never learned to drive in the snow.
