Thanks Eric and Dheaton. I think I'm getting it now. LOL...DUH YUP!

Dheaton, I use Aperture and also sometimes Color Efecs Pro 4. These pics were in JPEG. Normally though they will be in RAW.

I love adding color to the photo's and would love to learn more about that!

Your B&W is looking good. Perhaps a little more time on mono color before you jump into color?

LOL...ya think?

I'm just sayin'.

Tracey,

Just a little bit of patience, I think you'll be rewarded with stunning images.

Reminds me of a joke:

Knock knock.

Who's there?

Impatient Chicken.

Impatient Chic/-bkaaaack!

I think that joke works better with sound ;-).

I've been going through some images from August and found these two to share.

Eric

Due solely to this thread, I've become the owner of a Fuji SI Pro. So what lens or lenses do you recommend to obtain the most of which the SI-Pro is capable? :)

We are fortunate to be in Florida where the weather makes it possible to go out each and day we have plenty of foliage. Palm trees always come out well, mangroves too, in fact all of our local vegation turns to looking like snow, that we thankfully don't have!
Will post soon, I have a camera card full to download

Rick,

Wow, no pressure or anything ;-). While I have been shooting IR for about 5 years I don't have any experience with DSLR's and IR. I have a Fuji IS-1, which does not have interchangeable lenses and the Oly C-2100 UZ or UZI which again does not have interchangeable lenses.

I am providing you with a link to an IR message board topic that lists lenses and which ones have 'Hot Spots' and are not suitable for IR. I would strongly recommend that you check out this board for DSLR specific questions.
http://irphotocom.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gear&action=display&thread=66

I am more than happy to handle general IR questions, but your lens question is outside of my personal experience. After you purchase your lens, please post some images, I would love to see what the S1 Pro is capable of for IR and I think it will also shoot UV too.

Looking forward to you images,

Eric

Tracey,

You are off to a good start but I would try to go for more full sun on your images. Notice how #'s 2 & 3 really pop with contrast and the first and last with minimal bright sun are kinda drab. One of the nice things about IR is you can shoot in the middle of the day with bright, contrasty light and it looks great. Visible light taken at the same time doesn't work as well.

Look at my two images at the top of this page. The sunrise shot is kinda drab except where the light is striking directly on the hills. In the second shot with strong sun behind me, the image has much more pizazz.

Hope this helps and post more soon (nice car BTW, yours?),

Eric

Thanks, Eric.
Correction : Mine is actually an IS-Pro, not SI-Pro as I wrote initially.
When I went searching I thought I was looking for (and had bought) the camera you have. Did not focus on the lack of the word "Pro" in your description of your camera. I now suspect I wound up buying a lot more camera than I really need
 Thanks for the link. Body arrives tomorrow. Worthless without a lens  When I have something publishable I'll post it. I forget what filter you use; a B+W 093 was recommended by the guy I bought mine from. Any reaction to that recommendation? Thanks again!

Kodie, I love the picture, also the frame border. How did you make that? I have Photshop 7.0 but I don't think I can do it in that.
Thanks,

Hi Tracey,
Palm trees make wonderful subjects. I stood underneath this one, the sky was a clear deep blue with no clouds. It was at a shopping area in a lovely part of the garden. The shoppers wondered what I was doing on my knees looking up at a tree! Who cares, I was having fun.

Oopsie! I did a web search on your new camera and found this:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2007/7/13/fujifilmispro
Yowza, that is a smoking camera! Did you get it used? I hope you got a good price on it. What kind of IR are you wanting to capture, color or B&W because filter choice makes a big difference based on that. Color works best with lower nm filters (680 and below) and B&W with higher nm (720 and above).
nm = Nanometers.

I'm trying to find a graph that has the various filters listed, transmission wavelength (nm's), and what effects to expect from them.

I'll post that as soon as I find it.

I like my Hoya R72 (720nm) for B&W IR.

Good luck with your lens and filter selections and I'm eagerly anticipating your images,

Eric
