I bought a Olympus OM-D E-M5 16MP
Small in size, light, very versitile. Can use Nikon and Panasonic lenses. I probably slightly over bought but this a great camera to get back into the hobby. I expect to receieve it in a few days. Thank yuo for all your suggestions and pointers.

Sam

First problem:

The SCN (Scene) feature does not work. One of the reasons I went for a small camera is that I want to get my wife involved. This is the feature she uses the most on our point and shoot. Is there a help line for Olympus or is my only option to contact the store and hope someone has actually handled one of these?

If your budget is around $1000, you can get a Nikon D5200 kit with an 18-55 and a 55-200 VR lens bundle that will cover most needs. I've had one for 6 months now and it's 24MP sensor is fabulous at capturing detail in RAW. I've since added a 55-300 Nikkor to extend my zoom capabilities. I concur with others here that it's hard to get a bad DSLR these days at any price point and you should check the size, weight and feel of anything before you buy. I would give the D5200 or D7100 consideration.
