Smart Man! You've actually saved a lot of time and money by doing it that way. My next lens will either be the 85mm f1.2 or more likely the 24mm Tilt & Shift.

8-) 8-) 8-) Dave Johnson, please tell me/us exactly what you are going to shoot with the Tilt/Shift. "The neighbors" is not an acceptable answer. The lens fascinates me, but I am more "in wonder" than "in awe". Just exactly what does a Tilt/Shift do and how does it do it? Thanx.

Congratulations on your new toy, just enjoy. I would keep that 50D, it's always good to have a back-up!! I'm shooting with the 5D M II since early 2008, then bought the M III as soon as it hit the shelves, and I'm very happy with it. It is a much better camera, but I kept the M II and it's my back-up for some time now.

I'm coming to the conclusion that I'll keep the 50D - as you say, it's good to have a back-up. Cheers, Bob

Now don't rush into this. Do what I do: read the manual thoroughly and take notes; charge at least one battery; Google the camera and read articles about its use; check YouTube for videos on how to use it; get Zagg Invisishield for the LCD; order a nice strap to use instead of the Canon strap.

Take your time. :D

Thanks Jerry. I've already ordered a new strap and I'll look into the Zagg Invisishield. Cheers, Bob

What brand of lens are you holding up ? Red line would indicate a Canon ? That size are usually white .

It's the Canon 100mm 2.8L Macro.

Jay Maisel, HCB, Dominic Chavez and I would advise you to pick a lens, put it on your camera and shoot. One lens. One camera. One set of messages to the brain. Unleash your creativity. My small point is that to learn the camera, the Mark III takes more time than you might think.

Thanks duckshots, I think I might do that. Cheers, Bob

I just got my 5d3 as well to add to my 7d ... can't wait to put it to some good use. There's a lot to learn with all the features and will take some time. One good thing is the control and layout is very similar to the 7d!

I would highly recommend Douglas Klostermann's book "Canon 5D Mark III Experience". This is a great companion to the Canon Manual. The book has also been updated to included the latest firmware upgrade. I believe that you can get a free preview edition of this book from iTunes. The preview has the Table of Contents and 16 pages from the book. There is a couple of pages from the AF section included.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I did have a look at it and I have to say I did like the look of it though it was only available to buy as an ebook. Call me old fashioned but I still prefer a book with paper pages - particularly a manual type book where I may want to flick between pages. Thanks again for the thought. Cheers, Bob

Hi Dave, interested to hear that you're thinking about the 85mm f1.2. I had a look at that as its low light capabilities are really attractive though it's a bit pricey so I may go with the Sigma 85mm f1.4 - not this week though!

I too, prefer a printed book for the same reason. I got the book when it first came out and then it was updated to included the new firmware. The advantage of the ebooks is the ease of the updates. The updated book was free.

The book is well written and very easy to follow. Even though it only comes as a ebook, I still highly recommend it.

I've been using an Op/Tech USA wrist strap on my 50D for about 9 months now and I love it. No neck strain and it's really comfortable. In fact, one of the reasons I went with the wrist strap is that when walking around with my camera I generally had the neck strap wound round my wrist so having a proper wrist strap made sense.

I was initially concerned about the safety aspect of having the strap attached to just one part of the camera but since I started using it I have had no worries.

So to answer your question: another one of the same.

Jerry, I've searched for one particularly on Amazon but with few exceptions they appear custom made to fit phones. Do you know whether they are made for different camera models or do you happen to just modify them to fit your camera? Cheers, Bob

Bob; Zagg makes the Invisible shield

They are pretty expensive .. $14.99 for the 5d3, I got mine for $7.99 on cyber Monday when they had a sale. I have these on all our family smartphones as well.
