Haha, you're right - not sure whether I should have got a bigger camera or perhaps buy a smaller lens. Cheers, Bob

What brand of lens are you holding up ? Red line would indicate a Canon ? That size are usually white .

Jay Maisel, HCB, Dominic Chavez and I would advise you to pick a lens, put it on your camera and shoot. One lens. One camera. One set of messages to the brain. Unleash your creativity. My small point is that to learn the camera, the Mark III takes more time than you might think.

In what way is it "more camera"? I don't know the nuances of these two to know exactly what separates them.

I have had mine for about 3 wks now. Still cant seen to focus right. Did call canon and they helped me but still didnt work, so Canon had me reset camera and then it DID work. But now it is not again. Maybe you have a hint for me. Ihave read the the bk, watched the youtube shows but..... How are you doing? Love the camera Just wish I was catching on faster. Moved from 40D

The many focus points and different AF settings can be confusing. I takes a bit of practice to figure things out. Go through the manual slowly with the camera in hand.

You may want to set the camera to One Shot AF using 9 AF points. This will simplify things a bit. See if it focuses okay at these settings.

I would highly recommend Douglas Klostermann's book "Canon 5D Mark III Experience". This is a great companion to the Canon Manual. The book has also been updated to included the latest firmware upgrade. I believe that you can get a free preview edition of this book from iTunes. The preview has the Table of Contents and 16 pages from the book. There is a couple of pages from the AF section included.

It's not "more camera". Canon won't charge $1000 less for more camera. Many differences....

The 6D has built-in wireless and GPS. This is an advantage to some. The 6D, according to specifications, will auto focus in lower light than the 5D MK III. In my experience, this does not always ring true.

The 5D MK III is larger and heavier- could be a plus or could be a minus. The AF system in the 5D MK III is far superior to the 6D. Video on the 5D MK III is far better than the 6D. The list could go on. The two cameras are in different classes. Both are great cameras and can take excellent photos.

Is the $1000 or so difference in price worth it? That is up to you and your style of photography. I feel that after working with both, I will choose the 5D MK III, 95% of the time.

Congrats!! Got that camera about 2 weeks ago. Haven't been able to shoot much of anything yet but have plan to do some this week end.

I do have the glass in fact, probably too much if I'm honest. I've gone down the road of glass first, camera second and virtually all the lenses I own I bought with the intention of moving to full frame at some time. There's a couple of lenses that I'd still like but no urgency!! (Dear Santa) :-)

Smart Man! You've actually saved a lot of time and money by doing it that way. My next lens will either be the 85mm f1.2 or more likely the 24mm Tilt & Shift.

Great choice in cameras! I'm sure you'll love it. But, unfortunately, it might not be compatible with the lens you're holding up in your avatar.

Wow - is that what they mean when they say "full-frame" lens?

The 6D is smaller and lighter, and is almost silent just for staters.
both are full frame

I've had mine for about 7 months and really like it. No focusing issues other than the occasional operator error. I use spot focus most of the time because I shoot mostly people and want them to be in focus. If you use all the focus points the camera may decide to focus on something other than your main subject. Also shooting at F8 to F11 will help as you will get a greater depth of field than if you try and shoot wide open.

If after practicing you are still have focusing issues set your camera up on a tripod and run some focusing tests. You can google "Canon focusing tests" to find plenty of information on how to do this and interpret the results.
