I don't have a Canon, but I'd love to learn more about them. Without going too much into detail, what is the difference between the 50d and the 5d? Is it that on is full size sensor and the other is cropped?
It's basically the difference between the Nikon D90 and the D800. Newer sensor, full frame, better AF, better build. And $2k.
Congratulations. You'll love it, now all you have to do is by new glass. Oops, did I just say that out loud. :)

Tis the holiday season: L - L - L - L - L, L - L - L - L.

about the same as comparing a skateboard with a car. Single digits are how canon numbers their top cameras, the 1d, 1ds being their flagship.
Ok, that helps. I was always confused a bit by the one digit two digit names. Is the 5d mk III a full frame, or an APS-C?
Congratulations on your new toy, just enjoy. I would keep that 50D, it's always good to have a back-up!! I'm shooting with the 5D M II since early 2008, then bought the M III as soon as it hit the shelves, and I'm very happy with it. It is a much better camera, but I kept the M II and it's my back-up for some time now.

Have had my MK3 for a year now and I'm rapt... Make sure you update the firmware to the latest version, this should fix any auto focus problems with various lens..

5DmkIII is a FF, as is 6D
Knock on wood. My 5Dm3 focuses fine! Love it!

Yes, except now single digits refer to three different levels of camera:
1DX: flagship, FF, $6800
5DMkIII: FF, $3400
6D: FF, $1900
7D: APS-C, $1500
so that doesn't help someone who is trying understand the difference between the 50D and a "single digit" Canon.

I have had mine for about 3 wks now. Still cant seen to focus right. Did call canon and they helped me but still didnt work, so Canon had me reset camera and then it DID work. But now it is not again. Maybe you have a hint for me. Ihave read the the bk, watched the youtube shows but..... How are you doing? Love the camera Just wish I was catching on faster. Moved from 40D
Hi, i have one and it works okay. what lens are you using and in what kind of shooting situation are you having a focus problem? is it with still or moving subject?
For example, with a tamron 70-200, i have focus loss issues with a fast-moving sideways subject. By setting the correct AF case, i had better results.

I thought focusing was supposed to be the problem with the D800. Now you're saying it's a problem with the 5DMkIII? Are you sure you aren't a Nikon spy sent to confuse us?
I am sure it is me not the camera. BUT I WILL get this straight. Really do like camera, and not having to use flash indoors.

I have just got myself a Canon 5d mk3 and I'm a very happy chappy. Can't wait to put it to use. :-)
Now don't rush into this. Do what I do: read the manual thoroughly and take notes; charge at least one battery; Google the camera and read articles about its use; check YouTube for videos on how to use it; get Zagg Invisishield for the LCD; order a nice strap to use instead of the Canon strap.
Take your time. :D
Started with a 2SIS, moved to 20D, 40D, 5D, 5DMI, 5DMII and now 5DMIII. The latter, named Walker Evans, never goes out of the condo. Sits on a tripod in my makeshift studio. Only shoot new L lenses. Still feeling out the camera. Use MII as a walk around. L lenses don't work as well on it. Would buy another MIII in a flash, which is a whole other topic. Beg, borrow and steal for the 600's.

I do have the glass in fact, probably too much if I'm honest. I've gone down the road of glass first, camera second and virtually all the lenses I own I bought with the intention of moving to full frame at some time. There's a couple of lenses that I'd still like but no urgency!! (Dear Santa) :-)

I do have a few of these already, like the one I'm holding. No, it's not a beer keg :-)
