Folks, I previously posted a photo of a male guitar player (Rex Thomas). Well today, I had the chance to photograph a female one. Heck, I don't care what sex they are...I just like taking photos of musicians. This is Sally Quick from the singing trio "The Quicks". The post processing is a desaturated grunge look I sort of like on close ups like this. Besides, the lighting was so awful this is my attempt to salvage the shot.

All I can say is, you captured the emotion and feeling of the moment and connected it with a story that was special, it doesn't get any better than that. I enjoyed!!

Yea, I'm still after that WOW shot...if only I could get on stage and right in their face. But can't...so I do my best with what I can do. I think we're heading to the Grand Ole Opry House soon. Now there...you can walk up to the stage, so I'm excited about that upcoming photo shoot. I'm still marveling about your plane photo the other day too. I was an amazingly great photo.

What a difference between the two photos. The first one looks like one used for the advertizement for upcoming events in the entertainment section of the newspaper. When translated means that you actually did good for what you had to work with.

Still learning Tom...its so hard to get good skin tones with all the colored lights. In this case...it worked against me. I loved the shots composition, but hate the way it came out colorwise. She sort of looks like the the Tanning Lady.

Your on to something, and I see you putting the pieces together for something special, just keep on keeping on. Your low light concert shots are like my museum shots only with movement, extremely difficult. I know you have a vision in your mind of the image you want and when you finally get it, I'll probably hear the shout up here

I love this image! Lots of impact in the way you did pp and the framing of her and guitar. Super!

Wow! Much better! I thought the first shot was Keith Richards.

You crack me up...I understand, and hopefully on my next photo shoot the photos won't look like Keith Richards or even Mick Jagger, unless it's actually them...but you never know :-)

Well Linda...this type of presentation is a tough one and mostly a matter of taste. In most cases when photographing women, the consensus is to have them presented as flawless as much as possible (it's a cultural thing). In this case, she is a woman with some age and that's not a bad thing. She has lots of character in my opinion...lived a good long life, probably has had rough times, we all have. But my attempt here was to capture her (all beauty aside) showing her just the way she presented her uplifting song. But in all honesty...the lighting killed me on this one. This song only lasted a couple minutes, and I never really got a pleasing exposure tonewise. I value everyone's opinions and thoughts...we all gain from good criticism and grow because of that. You've been a champion at giving good advise here on this forum.

Thank you Kindly Amy...it was a difficult shot lighting wise of a beautiful woman expressing herself and her loss through song and instrument.

LOL Oh I wouldn't go that far, James. This one doesn't look like a man to me and is pretty, so it gets my vote. First one looks like she'd been out in the sun too long. :-D

Yea, I totally agree and I hope she doesn't see it. Here's another version going the other way...everything softened but still pretty manly looking. Maybe I should just say this is Bob.

I like this photo of the guitar player very much. I think it shows a lot of character. Whether it is a female or a male does not matter to me. It shows strength of character either way. The hands are delicate and sensitive.

I love both pictures. You did very well. If I could offer one suggestion; I would like to have seen more of the bottom half of the photo for number 2. Great job.
