Folks, I previously posted a photo of a male guitar player (Rex Thomas). Well today, I had the chance to photograph a female one. Heck, I don't care what sex they are...I just like taking photos of musicians. This is Sally Quick from the singing trio "The Quicks". The post processing is a desaturated grunge look I sort of like on close ups like this. Besides, the lighting was so awful this is my attempt to salvage the shot.

If that's a female I would "Quick"ly run from the room. I like the shot though.

Yea, that probably wasn't a good image to use (I apologize) on her behalf. I don't know what I was thinking:? The light tech spotted her with an orange light during her guitar solo and that's the worse light for skin tones. But I was determined to get a tight shot during that song...lesson learned. I added another of her under a white spotlight...it's much better.

Wow those two pictures are a real change. I love the look of the first one. It may not be flattering. But you did an awesome job processing it. Very nice look!!!

Hi Erv, The first shot was taken in low light, just a dim orange spotlight overhead. It really accentuated all her flaws (if you want to call them that) perhaps too much. They brought up the lights for the second photo. But its fun trying to get action shots of musicians. Thanks for viewing.

Yea, I totally agree and I hope she doesn't see it. Here's another version going the other way...everything softened but still pretty manly looking. Maybe I should just say this is Bob.

Hold the phone, James! I think #1 of Sally is way beyond salvaged! Its a brilliant image of a player and her guitar. The composition works well and she is intent on looking at her finger work on the frets. Desat & grunge are perfect as she appears to be BlueGrass or Folk or NewAge.. (I have no idea, obviously). Concert lighting is not good for photography, you've done well!

Well Thank you Kindly...I have had favorable opinions on that style PP before. However, in this instance, for most it seem to harsh for a woman. She was singing a very sad quiet folk song about the loss of her granddaughter. But her song turned from sadness to happiness in that she finally found peace in her heart and that we all can during difficult times. A very moving and touching song of love.

What a difference between the two photos. The first one looks like one used for the advertizement for upcoming events in the entertainment section of the newspaper. When translated means that you actually did good for what you had to work with.
