I just had an 18% grey card matched to paint my Computer room, curious to see if it has any effect on monitor calibration. Not sure if it would be a good color for a studio, but I may try it. Also made my wife happy that I was painting.

Any time Erv, came with a mini fridge filled with that cold stuff.
Her trip to India for work and me staying behind got me the new toy (D7000)...unfortunately it takes a wee bit more than painting one room to justify a new toy, but I'm saving um up. Working on the D600 or D800e...a way to go yet. :)

I am looking to Doug. The D300s is getting close to it's shutter count. But I will get the D400 if it comes out and looks good or go with another D300s. I love this camera for the build. I am hard on my camera. It goes where ever I do.:):)

Maybe you could stick him to the wall :?
White. It also give you shades of gray and black depending on how much light is hitting it.
Good Morning Wes, I just finished painting my studio and I used an off white. It still looks white to me but has a slight tint. I control the lighting so I am not worried that much about stray lights affecting anything.
One of the reasons I did it this was is because my studio is also my meet and greet room, my gallery room and I wanted it to look real clean and bright.
I do envy those that have the room for all separate spaces.
Another thought if you have the layout is to section off your walls and make each one a background itself. I have seen a couple that have done a sponge surface and made a real pretty BG.
It all depends on what you want to do.
Have fun as I am having a ball with my new studio, have a lot of fun building it as well.
I painted mine white with white cabinets. I have seen one painted gray with maroon accents--very cool looking.

Could anyone tell me what would be a color to paint the walls and ceiling for a small room to be used as a studio?
WesIam, in the first studio I built, I painted the wall with a flat, grey paint. Worked fine. If I wanted a light background, I illuminated it, or if dark... no light on it. Worked fine for me for years, but of course that was back in the B&W days.
NOTE for you old-timers: Wonder how may of you might remember the first latex paint that hit the market called, "Super KemTone"? That's what I used :)

sounds expensive haha
Good white paint, some good black material, enough for a home studio, not really all that expensive.....
After much experimentation...I finally settled on black ceiling, black walls except one wall is flat white...seems to work well. There are times when I set up over on the "white" side and use the wall as a fill or bounce strobes into it...if it is a problem I can always gobo it off with 4X8 blacks....

You mite be right....the price of a gallon of paint now...good grief you'd think we're painting the space shuttle or something.
Bret, the government was too cheap to paint the shuttle, so they tiled it. SS

Wes, I've been into and shot in a number of studios.
Plus I have watched hundreds of uTubes on portrait, with some in the studios of some of the best studio photographers there are. I have yet to see any color other than some shade of white, and never black. But might make a great man cave! SS
PS, if looking for cheaper paint, look into PVA.
