For many "photographers," myself included, the subject is irrelevant. What I want is nice composition, good exposure, sharp focus, and maybe something out of the ordinary.

If it didn't look creepy, we could ask about buying used mannequins from stores and use them to practice shooting humans.

At least they would know what you meant when you said hold that pose!

Funny cause I think once you've seen a photo of common back yard flowers, I don't need to see 100 other some what medicore photos of flowers. Same goes for hummingbirds, sun sets, dragon flies, bees on flowers, etc. Now a jaw dropping dragon fly will get my attention, out of focus bee - not so much.

Now give me slightly OOF portrait any day.

UHH doesn't really seem to be a place that many portrait photographers gather. I'm not sure why, they seem to end up on other forums.

What does OOF portrait mean? Out of focus perhaps?

I guess I'll have to do the Pimsleur approach so I can understand.....I guess everybody is talking this language.

Johnny boy - as has been said - the UHH is really for anyone with an interest in photography including you and me.

I have an opinion about posting that I'd love to be shared by all but sadly is not. The main thing is to make our efforts interesting to others - an interesting problem, an unusual quality or approach to a shot or method, a helpful attitude - basically TRY. Not necessarily hard but the difference shows up. How much effort would it have cost you to post a photo big enough for me to see? Did you THINK about that? If you'd like to know how but don't then ask. (Some people are really pleased to have a dumb question asked by someone else because he was embarrassed about being too dumb to know and consequently wouldn't ask.)
So remember this is a cooperative place - doesn't matter which side of the line you're on. Many of us are here in an effort to improve and help each other to do so. Roll on. . .
Mike

OMIGosh I detest selective coloration. Such a cliche. I've yet to see it add anything to an image

I saw a good one today. An English style house, 2 story, with a large American flag on the side. Everything was b&w except for the flag. It was nice.
