And there are some of us who do not need to "reward ourselves" for life accomplishment. We may have the money to buy anything we would like to have, but really believe the truths that other people only talk about. that money can't buy happiness, it can't buy health and it can't buy true love. the truest rewards are the enjoyment of each moment of an existance that is all too brief on this beautiful planet. to think ostentacious material goods somehow equate to the life well spent is a laughing matter.

KathyinNH has pointed out what advertising can do,and
how some people fall for it. No matter how much it costs,
if some brand claims it is "the best", or you can make
the most fantastic pictures with it worthy of Nat'l
Geographic, or become rich and famous...whatever the dream,
......they'll fall for it without further thought. Today's
example is the most extreme we're likely to hear of.....

i hope thaat guy knows that it will cost at least $2,500.00 for a used lens,i also hope he will ask some of you guys to help him grow into his new camera.

After years of doing highly satisfactory work with35mm size. full frame, DSLR cameras (none with movie features) I also decided it would be fun to begin using a "Medium Format" DSLR. I did a lot of research, paying close attention to cost of camera, lenses and accessories. I already owned a Pentax 645n, with a "standard" 75mm lens and a 129mm macro so I decided on a 645D. I immediately bought a new 55mm "standard" lens , a used 35mm wide angle, and a used 80-160mm zoom. all in first rate condition.

My camera does have some great features, including the ability to shoot RAW in DNG format. Detail is incredible.

I suppose I was able to get this beast on board for about $14000 - a real bargain compared with Hasselblad, Mamiya and Leica S2 offerings. By the way, the Pentax has the same 40MP Kodak sensor featured in the Leica. I recently noted that Leica encourages users to adapt Hasselblad, Pentacon, Mamiya and Pentax 67 and645 lenses for use with the S2.

Right now, with limited use mandated by recovery from surgery, I can report real satisfaction with my new setup. For the time being, I intend to use it exclusively until I become proficient. Until I get rolling, I plan to use only the manual setting.

I think you are missing the point. The guy spent a bundle on something, then complained about it not having certain features. That tells a person that he bought something he was going to use and didn't even have the sense to research what he was buying. Something that would seem to us lesser mortals as irresponsible use of wealth.

I agree Dragonfist, I studied the Lenses first when I first even got started in this expensive THING we do. But after chusing Lenses I then picked a Body and later just upgraded the Camera Body and have so the first time after giving my first camera to my wife then the last was to get a Fool Frame, the point is although it may seem that a person made a purchase to take better pictures isn't always ture, it maybe for reason's such as mine, more Bells and Whistles and in my case more towards the Full Frame. I do agree also don't Critique something if you don't no how to use it and cleary that it needs Lenses. Also don't judge someone because they want all the Bells and Whistles, there may be a reason.

It's awesome for fashion, landscape, or product photography. But if you want to take "happy snaps" the blad is way too much camera.

Sounds good to me. You are having fun. Getting intimate with the things of interest and beauty around you. Whats wrong with that? I know guys that bought $500,000 motor homes and go on one trip per year to sit in a KOA campground just for the socializing.

The Pentax K1000 predates the 1980s. I had one in the late 70s. They are film only cameras with no frills. You totally have to learn the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, & aperture on exposure and depth of field. It was my first SLR and was stolen (along with a Pentax ME Super + numerous lenses) in a residential burglary in the early 80s.

Far bet it for me to tell someone how to spend their money. But it's hard for us 99%'ers to feel bad for someone who spent that much money on something that doesn't live up to they're expectations....because they didn't know anything about what they were buying. If you have that much money to "blow" why not spend it on something that will do some good. Donate to a shelter or food bank. You might find that helping out your fellow human being will actually make you feel better about yourself.....obviously the camera didn't make you feel better.

Perhaps $3000 for a camera, $2000 for accessories, and $2000 for a course in how to use it. $10,000 for charity. That way he benefits and so does mankind. Got a little extra left? I would like a Nikon 1. I'll even give you my D60 and extra lenses and filters.

Hey Gregory, I understand where you're coming from but I give to charities and people out on the street but I think the original comment was strictly about not giving a true Critique on something they didn't even no how to operate. It's like Canon or B&H wouldn't allow me to give a review on there website unless I'm a veified purchaser from there Co. or Owner of there product be for Posting it. I'm not sure if they look to see how long you've had the product too, in addition before allowing you to review but I wait at least a year and feel that guys review probably shouldn't have been used and reported. I enjoy reading and learning about all camera but don't dog something you no nothing about. Again this was about the original topic. Not about what a person should by or my poor choices as I'm sure I've maid a bunch. But I'm only here to learns Photography tips and New things and make friends and talk about the Photograpy Passion we all love.
