OMG.....I can't imagine why someone who is a "casual, non pro" photographer would spend this kind of money....even if you could. Truthfully, it does'nt make you a better photographer. I am going the reverse to that, in that, I am selling my Canon 30D and lenses to get a very good Point and shoot to simplify my life.

I think you are missing the point. The guy spent a bundle on something, then complained about it not having certain features. That tells a person that he bought something he was going to use and didn't even have the sense to research what he was buying. Something that would seem to us lesser mortals as irresponsible use of wealth.

It's the irresponsible use of brains that I find amusing. He's not happy with his camera. He spent all that money, and got a camera he rated 2 stars out of 5. He expected it to come with a lens, even though it says in big letters up top that it's "body only." He would not recommend it, and presumably would not buy it again himself.

He'd have been much happier with a point and shoot. Heck, I'd love to own a Hasselblad, but it's not the camera I'd bring to Disney to photograph the kids.

I have a Pentax K1000 that I bought -used- for $60 and I'll take better pictures with it than that ignorant jerk.

This story made me laugh. Now when I think I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, I just think about this guy. Feeling pretty sharp, already!!

Our paths through life are individually unique. I'm happy with mine, and sincerely wish the same for everyone else. The trick, however, is to stop feeding the ego. We can't do it, but we can try.

Exhibit A

See the review by "Iceman." He bought a Hasselblad. It cost $17,000. Even though he's a "casual photographer." He bought it to take to Disneyland, and gave it a low rating because it didn't come with a lens and doesn't do video.

I thought this forum had a 'no personal attacks' rule... my take on this is just that, a personal attack and ridiculing a felllow member.

Two quotes but not exact. If you got it flaunt it. Living well is the best revenge. The Iceman can spend his money any way he wants to. It is his in this free society. povdov

For those of us who have to really know what we are getting for our hard earned money, research makes the most sense. There are so many people that think the more expensive the better the object. I have very limited funds, so I have been researching the DSLR cameras quite a bit. I am just starting to learn about digital photography, don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a camera but want one that I can purchase much better lenses for and then upgrade the camera as I decide which newer features I want in 5-10 years.

The Pentax K1000 predates the 1980s. I had one in the late 70s. They are film only cameras with no frills. You totally have to learn the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, & aperture on exposure and depth of field. It was my first SLR and was stolen (along with a Pentax ME Super + numerous lenses) in a residential burglary in the early 80s.

I don't think anyone is questioning his right to spend his money as he wishes. What is in question is why you would pay such an exorbitant price for something and not know what you were buying. It wouldn't even be an item if he hadn't given a revue and essentially revealed that he didn't know what he was or wasn't getting for his money.
