My main preference is Peak Design straps which come in three different models, Slide. Slide Lite, and Leash. They differ in width, thickness and features. The Slide is intended for heavy cameras and lenses and is the most comfortable of the three if you have a very heavy kit. The Slide Lite is the one most will choose. It is narrower then the slide but still very comfortable and will hold the weight of anything you might want to use with it, but it may be a bit less comfortable then the Slide for very heavy kits. The leash is very narrow and is also thinner but still very strong. It is best used with smaller DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras with smaller and lighter lenses mounted. They all use the well known Peak Design anchors at the attachment points. The neoprene Optech straps are also very comfortable and are well priced.

Peak Design is my choice, too.

I have a Canon-branded backpack case that I put black tape over the logo for the same reason.

I like the Op/Tech strap because it can be extended to an over-the-shoulder, ride on the hip position. I have an eye that screws into the tripod socket hole and a mini carabiner to hold the camera to the strap. I don't remember where I got the triangular rings to attach the strap to the camera lugs.

Does anyone buy third-party straps or you generally use the original that comes with the camera?

I think my only modification was adding a velcro pocket for a remote to a standard strap.

Is there something else people do with straps in terms of adding features/functions that I might be missing out on?

I'm camera & lens Brand loyal but when it comes to straps...Peak Design Slide!

FWIW, I use Black Rapid and/or Peak Design camera straps depending on my mission. Best of luck.

I also use Canon originals (partly because they make it obvious that my cameras are CANON. Just reading the comments, apparently not everyone likes to display the camera brand, but I don’t mind). Never tried anything else, cuz I never considered it necessary. Reminds me of the saying “You can’t fix it if it’s not broken” :) But to each his own. Different people have different likes, so I can’t promise that everyone would like them

I have never met a strap I really liked. Since I use the Cotton Carrier system and do not want to use chest carry I will use the Peak Design Slide in combination with the Cotton Carrier Sling Belt to distribute the weight of large lenses between my neck and shoulders and my waist. The Cotton Carrier allows both hands to be completely free.

I am a minimalist in what I carry in the field. I know what I am going to photograph, so I carry only what I will need for that purpose. That goes back to my film days.

Thus I don't have unique or specialized strap needs.

It does not matter to me whether or not the strap bears a brand. And I am not certain the brand alone on a strap serves as an attractor pattern. I carry my full frame DSLR in a Think Tank Digital Holster bag which is adjustable for length of lens. Given the size of this bag, it is an indicator of a large camera/lens combination, despite its subdued appearance. I would think this size/configuration is more noticeable to a thief than the strap itself. So from a slightly different standpoint, I am not convinced that no name on the strap is any sort of theft deterrent. By the same token, I don't take any steps to conceal the make of camera.

The most secure carry system I have is a pacsafe camsafe V2 holster with strap that holds my mirrorless APS-C camera. I tripped across this on a close out sale at B&H, and the price was too good not to get it.

I prefer a cross shoulder carry with the camera in its case/bag/holster at my left hip.

The type of photography I do is primarily scenic, often isolated, so I avoid dicey areas. I used to enjoy night photography in San Francisco when we would play tourist. But SF has gotten so enlightened it is too dangerous to go there. Maybe more so for me, because I would not surrender my equipment without a fight. That is my nature, and a product of what I was doing when I was working.

Whichever camera I am carrying I have tethered to the shoulder strap so that it can't fall.

My approach is boring in its simplicity.

On my full frame dslr’s I use a Peak Design Clutch Strap with most all lenses. For longer use I use the peak Design Slide strap. Is way more comfortable than my cannon straps.

Hear Hear. I use the Peak Design Slide & find it very comfortable. You can purchase extra Anchor Mounts and put them on multiple cameras. It's then an easy process to use the one strap on many cameras. The Anchors are rated to 90+kg ( 200+lbs ) of force. I highly recommend this product.

Maybe some of us "Doofuses" don't fee like carrying it in our hand for 10+ minutes while walking around/hiking.....
Cross-shoulder it's always at the ready.
Interesting that if we don't don't do it your way, we're doofuses.

Perception....

I took his comments the same way. I guess I'll never be as cool as him! Lol

I use the over the head shoulder strap when walking a lot, it's fast to bring up, and it's safer against dropping it or having someone easily grab it....

Last year I moved to PEAK Design camera straps for all my Sony cameras.

They use a quick release design that allows me to quickly and easily remove the strap when working on a monopod or tripod.
