Camera straps: standard or added features?

Does anyone buy third-party straps or you generally use the original that comes with the camera?

I think my only modification was adding a velcro pocket for a remote to a standard strap.

Is there something else people do with straps in terms of adding features/functions that I might be missing out on?

I just use a nondescript (third party) wide strap with clips and D-rings on the camera for my DSLR.
My current denim strap is pushing 50 years old.
No added features or functions on the strap.
The strap on my Sony H-1 is the OEM strap (It's a little camera).

I use an Optech strap on my cameras. I see no need to advertise what kind of camera I’m using to anyone interested in relieving me of it. I used a strap that I got in Vietnam, till it gave up the ghost about 6 or 7 years ago. Went with an Optech, and added a second one when I got another camera. I also used a “Trekking” harness to get the load off of my neck and onto my shoulders, until I left it in Victoria Canada on a tour of the Canadian Rockies a few years ago. Tried to replace it, but it’s not being made anymore. BUMMER!

I use my wide strap cross-shoulder to get the load off of my neck. Works well.

Most cameras come with an over the neck strap. That's a real pain in the neck (pun intended) with the results being a sore neck and shoulders. I use a Sunsnyper over the shoulder type that the camera slides along the strap. Much more comfortable.

I use Nikon AN-4Y neck strap which doesn't have Nikon logo on it. It's yellow and only 1" at the widest. I used the same type since the early 80's. The last ones I bought around 2010 and they were still made in Japan. If the new ones are not made in Japan any more I won't buy any more of them.

I uee the skinnyest softest nylon straps I can find. Wider straps are too bulky when stuffing the camera into a case. I like to minimize my luggage ... ever since my mule died.

I nevvvvvuh wear my camera on my shoulder. I never wear it at all. Its in its bag or its in my hands. The strap is essentially a safety device for when its in my hands.

I see someone *wearing* a mid to larger size camera and I see "Doooooofus". Ive been told thaz all about being instantly ready... but thaz really just being a "Dubble Doofus".

I also choose not to advertise the type of camera I am using, so I change the strap. Furthermore, I buy a strap (wide because I find them more comfortable) that has a metal line through it to make it less likely that someone can come up behind me and cut the strap and run with my camera. There is not much I can do if someone wants the camera enough to club me over the head and take the camera.

I wear my camera on my neck very high. Chest high. not on the side. I use narrow strap. Nikon brand but no brand name on it. I bought 4 brand new Nikons. The first a F2AS which did come with a 1/2" wide leather neck strap. The second the F3HP didn't come with the neck strap and the third the F5 didn't come with a neck strap either. The Df did come with the strap but the strap is wider and has Nikon name on it so I don't use it.

Maybe some of us "Doofuses" don't fee like carrying it in our hand for 10+ minutes while walking around/hiking.....
Cross-shoulder it's always at the ready.
Interesting that if we don't don't do it your way, we're doofuses.

Perception....

I used the black rapid when i was carried large canons with batties pack and heavy lenes. In both one and two camera system. Now i have the cotton carrier vest. Both systems worked well.

Mine are embossed with C A N O N. They're the originals and they're the B E S T.

My main preference is Peak Design straps which come in three different models, Slide. Slide Lite, and Leash. They differ in width, thickness and features. The Slide is intended for heavy cameras and lenses and is the most comfortable of the three if you have a very heavy kit. The Slide Lite is the one most will choose. It is narrower then the slide but still very comfortable and will hold the weight of anything you might want to use with it, but it may be a bit less comfortable then the Slide for very heavy kits. The leash is very narrow and is also thinner but still very strong. It is best used with smaller DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras with smaller and lighter lenses mounted. They all use the well known Peak Design anchors at the attachment points. The neoprene Optech straps are also very comfortable and are well priced.

I also use an Optech strap, for the reasons you mentioned. Also, the Optech is nice and "grippy," and won't slip off my shoulder. I'm a confirmed believer that as far as logoed straps is concerned, it definitely doesn't pay to advertise.

Got some doubts about your reluctance to advertise your camera brand ... appropriate examples attached below.
