It may look bulky, which it is, and would be with a strap as well. But I can move around easily and I have my hands free. I no longer use an ad200pro on my promediagear bracket. I switched to an ad100pro. It puts out a 1/3rd of a stop more light than the round head on the AD200pro, it’s lighter and no battery pack hanging from my side and no wires hanging. And, I use the Z9 these days.

Does anyone buy third-party straps or you generally use the original that comes with the camera?

I think my only modification was adding a velcro pocket for a remote to a standard strap.

Is there something else people do with straps in terms of adding features/functions that I might be missing out on?

I have been using the spider holster. Been all over Adrian’s Central America with it. Nothing around you neck or shoulder. Best thing I have had in decades.

I use a Ru-Pac single strap that connects to a single (right) strap point on the camera. This permits carrying the camera a waist level with easily elevating the camera for shooting from eye level or using the view finder for shooting from waist level or overhead. There less stress on the neck than a OEM strap. Also, I added a quick disconnect tripod/monopod mount to the base of the camera for when more stability is needed.

Nice, but I wouldn't want to run with those hanging there like that Watch out Randy Bear

Whatever works for you is best. There are a lot of posted ideas here. I personally use an Optech cross body strap for comfort when carrying larger camera lens combinations. I’ll use the stock strap from the mfg if the setup is light ish

BTW Optech and Neotech are I believe the same entity. Neotech makes guitar straps and they are awesome

I use a third party strap that has two small pouches. I use them to hold a pair of batteries - I find that very handy.

I use the original strap with one dislike - the glaring logo name. I turn it upsidedown when alert.
It is fine with my up to 200mm lenses, on my up to four hour trips. because
When the action heats up I wrap it around my left wrist for one handed carry.
On a longer hike I use a camera bag.

I absolutely hate the crap straps that come with the camera. I throw them all away.

I have a Black Rapid Cross Shot Sling that I've been using for awhile.

Hmm. Nope. Is it really better? The strap would need to be set a lot longer. Right?

That’s another reason I like the Peak Design. It’s quick and easy to adjust the length. Besides not putting the strain on your neck it also keeps the camera from bouncing around when you walk.

Why and watch out for what?
I have run, with these. They are stable and control the kit.

I don’t use a strap anymore, but I am sure any amount of gear on a strap will swing around and possibly hit things in it's proximate position

When the camera is in the holster it doesn’t (and can’t) swing around.
Making better to run with.

Been using these for about 7 years.
Never dropped or damaged anything.

The gear is locked into the holsters.

You need to release a lever to be able to remove the camera from it.

I broke my neck, in 1996, when a 700 pound machine fell on top of me.
I have had multiple spine surgeries.
And have spent almost a year with a halo collar screwed to my skull.
In addition, I have extensive “hardware”, plates, screws and wires on five levels, in my neck.
The surgery that saved me from paralysis was a five level circumferential corpectomy

Using a camera strap was and is out of the question, because of the intense chronic pain I live with in the neck and back.

The holsters made it possible to carry gear with only a little extra pain.

As far as holsters are concerned, I have tried them all, after starting with the spider holster.
The best (for me) holsters that I use all day, everyday, are the promediagear SH-1’s. I have a lot of them. I always have two on my belt. See the photos I previously posted a few messages back.

What makes them better for me, is that they are much slimmer (lower profile) than the others, including Spider’s.
So, they are less bulky under a shirt, or when I am not carrying a camera.
And they are strong and reassuring to me.

I carry my Z9 in the holster all day long, regardless of where I am.
I want it handy all of the time.
And I get great conversations, with doctors and dentists, passer by’s, concert goers, etc, when I come in with the camera, mounted on my belt.

According to the army, a person can carry more weight for longer time, on their waist, compared to the neck/back.

Lastly, I tell my friends, if you ever see me without my camera, please, call the police, I have been robbed.

I use an Optech strap on my cameras. I see no need to advertise what kind of camera I’m using to anyone interested in relieving me of it.

Likewise, not because of the advertising (that's a minor issue) - but because the supplied Canon straps feel so uncomfortable. Nikon ones don't look any better.

I use OP/TECH for all my cameras. Straps are easily interchangeable.

I have over 100 camera straps hanging in 3 groups in my camera room. My go to strap is a handmade leather strap with my name on it, very well built and ultra comfortable and one other favorite is made from a 1967 Mercedes Benz SL250 upholstery from GUTAR Straps inc. both given to me by my Daughter and Son-in-law. They knew how much I loved my old SL250 and it matches my upholstery

I think we have a pretty large club, the "Doofuses." I too carry across my shoulder and the bag is usually in my vehicle while I walk the streets with my camera (strap over my shoulder).
While I'm not stylish, I do feel that I fit in better than those who elect to carry a bag (or heaven forbid, a Back Pack) when on a mission of city street or architectural photography.
