There is a saying, take care of the penny's and the dollars will take care of themselves.

I watch all of my penny's. I will even pick up a penny, someone else would leave on the ground.

I pick up pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, whatever I see on the ground. The most I will drive out of the way for cheap gas I will drive a mile. I try to preplan my gas stops ahead of time. Going back and forth to work I don't let my tank get below a half tank so I am filling up daily either on my way to work or on my way home at night.

I've had a few different Ma&Pa businesses explain that it is no longer the case. Removed in 2023?
Maybe the larger businesses are simply going to eat the cost? (or raise the price...)
Our illustrious g ov t at work......

All business expenses are deductibles. We have a small business and pay thousands of dollars every year for credit card processing fees, recently did our 2023 taxes and deducted it.

They should let customers know somehow.

One restaurant we get takeout from has a sign at the counter stating x% surcharge for credit cards.
(many places are starting that now that the card fee they pay is NO LONGER A DEDUCTIBLE BUSINESS EXPENSE.)

I believe that is wrong, still a cost of business expense. The reason they are charging a "service TAX" is the Credit card processing companies have convinced the owners they can save money by charging the customers to pay the CC processing fees, all fine and good until people wake up and see what's happing not only your paying the cost of the goods, that have the CC fee included when they set the fee, the taxes that go with that item (Take out food is getting a Take out fee also) and the CC fees, all this Nickle and dimeing adds up. in a cashless society this shouldn't be happening. JMO.

|If I see they are charging a service tax for using a credit card, I did not go there, there are two shops within a mile of me I haven't stepped foot in and have let them know why, not paying the 4% Taxes on top of everything else.

They STILL are! I've been a tax professional for - well, I only admit to 50 years!
Sounds as though your "Ma&Pa businesses" need some professional help. If they aren't deducting, they are overpaying their taxes.

I believe that is wrong, still a cost of business ... (show quote)

So all business should up the price to cover the fee. If not, the business should eat the cost? That may cause them to go cash only. But if they up the cost, then the people who pay cash would complain, or not go there.
Can't please anyone anymore...... Someone will always get bent out of shape.
Ever think that possibly some Ma&Pa business might JUST be making it and passing on the fee may just help a little to keep them in business???

There's another saying, live prudently.
And another, don't spend more than you can afford.
Actually, there's a ton of sayings.

Whether or not they eat the cost the fee should be tax deductible.

A potential solution. Giant Eagle in Ohio, has Get Go stations and they offer a program where you can get a $0.20-$0.30 per gallon discount if you allow them to withdraw the funds directly from your checking account. They also give you a $0.10/gal discount for grocery purchases of $50. Spend $100 and you can get $0.50/gal discount.

At the same time Casey should give you a discount for not using a credit card. That would offset the fee.
