When I'm in Illinois, I shop at Casey's. The ones I use have a sign on the pump that they put a "holding fee" of $1.00 onto your card until payment is received. Then, it is removed. What's interesting is that they only do that on gas. Curious! Check your account again in a few days. The $1.00 should be gone.

As one who takes credit cards for merchandise sold, I can tell you that when one has a very low margin of profit, paying CC fees can be a substantial charge. I have people who want to buy a $1.00 item and pay with a card. I understand that because I usually never carry cash myself. However, if I took the card for the $1.00 item, I would only get $.25, which is less than the cost of the item.

Some stations here in Central CA consider a debit card the same as cash and you get the cash price when you use the debit card. when you use the debit card they will ask if this is a credit or debit card, that is how they know to give the cash price.

Most places treat a debit card the same as cash.

I haven't run into any gas station that charges for using my credit card but using my credit card I have the cash back so it's cheaper for me to use the credit card.

Good point. We use a Costco Credit Card for literally everything that is allowed. We pay the card off imnediately after purchases. Gas, food, clothes, incidentals, cameea gear etc. There is no interest if paid off immediately.

After a year we get a Costco Rewards check usually at $2000.00 which can be cashed in at Costco for cash money.

PS- Gas is cheapest in our area at Costco so it really saves $$$.

Or post it at the pump.....
They should let customers know somehow.

One restaurant we get takeout from has a sign at the counter stating x% surcharge for credit cards.
(many places are starting that now that the card fee they pay is NO LONGER A DEDUCTIBLE BUSINESS EXPENSE.)

When did the "No Longer a Deductible Business Expense" provision become law? Really. Banks have to count the fee as income, so is this just another govt trick to take more money? I guess the answer is self evident. Sad.

Wow! I've gotta pull out the Costco card more frequently. (Although I'm not a fan of CitiBank)

Two of our Ma&Pa (family) restaurants we go to relayed this to me sometime last year.

Think that’s bad, about refusing cash to pay for a purchase, some business around Montreal mostly on the west part of town, only accept payment with debit or credit, supposedly to cut down employees thefts

Showed this to my wife, who watches our account.
She said the same thing. It will drop off.

Been to some places like that, cards only, and one restaurant near us is Cash Only.

How can it be? If they received a payment of $100 and have to pay $3 fee they only receive $97.

The business reports gross income and then gets down to the taxable amount (on the tax return) by deducting all allowable business expenses.

Sam's Club does the same for gas. It upset me the first couple of times it happened. Dopey me didn't realize that it was the way the merchant makes sure the credit card is "good". The $1 charge is reversed pretty soon afterwards, though.

Yup.
Sometimes I have a tickler go through for $100 when I got gas for $45, and the $45 has not shown up yet.
The next day the $100 goes away and the $45 appears. Their system is checking for the validity of the card used before it will pump gas.
Most of the ticklers are only $1.00.
You don't pay for the ticklers.

At those price differences, saving about $.65 a fill-up every month or so for me would take a bit to get a new lens.

I wonder just how much was spent driving all over looking for that 3-4 cent cheaper gas to buy. Oh I know it was cheaper to buy it there even though I had to go out of my way to get there. Sometime bargains are really not the bargain one thinks it is.

Most of the restaurants here are cash only. To bad more places aren't like that.

I'm not concerned with a 5¢ difference.
probably not even a 10¢ difference.

If I decide to get gas at the next exit on an interstate, I just get gas.
We all know that gas stations at the interstate exits are priced higher.
